Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care for animals while assisting veterinarians and veterinary technicians in various tasks. Duties
- Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures, ensuring the comfort and safety of animals.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation for each animal treated.
- Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Provide basic grooming and hygiene care for animals, including bathing, nail trimming, and ear cleaning.
- Handle and restrain animals safely during examinations and procedures to prevent injury to staff or pets.
- Monitor the health and behavior of animals in our care, reporting any concerns to the veterinarian promptly.
- Assist with laboratory tests, including collecting samples such as blood or urine for analysis.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinic, including sterilizing instruments and cleaning examination rooms.
- Educate pet owners on animal care, nutrition, and training techniques as needed.
Requirements
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology is essential for effective communication within the team.
- Understanding of animal anatomy and husbandry practices is preferred.
- Experience with high volume spay/neuter is a plus, but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with prevention of cross contamination and training in Fear Free is necessary prior to start date.
- Previous experience as a veterinary technician is advantageous.
- Proficiency in dog handling and animal restraint techniques to ensure safety during procedures.
- Ability to perform laboratory tasks related to animal health diagnostics is desirable.
- A genuine passion for animal welfare and commitment to providing excellent care is required.
