What are the responsibilities and job description for the Structural Analysis Engineer position at a.i. solutions?
a.i. solutions is seeking a highly motivated Structural Analysis Engineer to support the ELVIS 3 contract at Kennedy Space Center in support of the Launch Services Program (LSP). The qualified candidate will perform structural strength and fracture insight/oversight of current and future launch vehicles, and mission unique hardware as applied to the integration of payloads (spacecraft). The position will ensure that NASA maintains insight into the launch vehicle and spacecraft capabilities and exercises approval authority on all applicable deliverables/analyses. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to embrace the a.i. solutions mission and work to continually exceed the expectations of our customers.
Essential Roles & Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and independently validate structural margins based on theoretical calculations, finite element modeling/analysis, or qualification/acceptance test data
- Review and assess launch service contractor’s documents and analyses, such as: strength analysis reports, qualification test reports, Interface Control Documents, mission requirement verification, factory build records, and hardware discrepancy reports
- Contribute to launch service contractor design reviews, review test plans, witness tests, and participate in NASA mission readiness reviews
- Prepare and present technical presentations to engineering review boards for various fleet and mission specific reviews
- Support NASA certification of new and emerging launch vehicles
- Exercise approval authority on all applicable launch service contractors’ deliverables for NASA
- Support process improvement activities to advance the group
- Travel, as required
Minimum Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Successful completion of a government background check
- B.S. degree in Aerospace or Mechanical engineering or related technical field
- 10 years of experience in material strength/fatigue/fracture analysis
- Analytical skills in strength and fracture mechanics disciplines, which include experience using industry modeling/simulation software (e.g. NX/Simcenter, ABAQUS, ANSYS, NASTRAN, FEMAP, NASGRO)
Desired Background:
- 5 years of experience with Launch Vehicles or related aerospace support
- Experience with composite structural analysis
- Experience with fatigue and fracture mechanics
- Familiarity with NASA and industry standards of structural design requirements such as NASA-STD-5001, NASA-STD-5009, NASA-STD-5019, NASA-STD-5020, ANSI/AIAA S-081, etc. is a plus
- Ability to quickly connect in-person and in writing, and to actively listen and perceive the needs, values, or opinions of others
- Demonstrated leadership accomplishments professionally and personally
- Proactive in identifying and addressing challenges to include innovations that result in positive organizational impact
