Safety Officer

Job Overview
This role is responsible for overseeing and managing the safety protocols and programs within the company. Their primary role is to ensure that all activities comply with safety regulations and standards, thereby minimizing risks and promoting a culture of safety across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Developing Safety Policies and Procedures:

• Create and implement comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Regularly review and update safety protocols to reflect changes in regulations and industry best practices.
• Ensure policies are accessible and communicated effectively to all employees.

Safety Program Management:

• Oversee the development and execution of safety programs, including training programs, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency response procedures.
• Coordinate specialized safety training for high-risk activities such as working at heights, confined spaces, and heavy machinery operation.
• Develop safety orientation programs for new hires and subcontractors.

Regulatory Compliance:

• Monitor, interpret, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, ANSI, NFPA).
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and ensure timely implementation of new requirements.
• Act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections, audits, and investigations.
• Prepare and submit required safety reports and documentation to regulatory bodies.

Risk Assessment and Mitigation:

• Conduct regular risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential safety issues.
• Perform site inspections to monitor compliance with safety protocols and identify areas for improvement.
• Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions.
• Ensure that safety measures are integrated into project planning and execution.

Incident Investigation:

• Lead thorough investigations into accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes.
• Prepare detailed incident reports and develop strategies to prevent future occurrences.
• Implement corrective actions and monitor their effectiveness.

Safety Culture Promotion:

• Foster a culture of safety within the organization by promoting safety awareness and best practices.
• Communicate safety expectations and updates to all employees through regular meetings, newsletters, and bulletins.
• Encourage employee participation in safety initiatives and recognize exemplary safety practices.

Emergency Preparedness:

• Develop and maintain comprehensive emergency response plans and procedures.
• Coordinate regular emergency drills to ensure all personnel are prepared to respond effectively.
• Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are available and in good condition.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

• Establish safety performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Analyze safety data and trends to identify areas for improvement.
• Prepare and present detailed safety performance reports to senior management and stakeholders.
• Conduct regular reviews of safety program effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements.

Budget Management:

• Develop and manage the safety department budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while maintaining high safety standards.
• Allocate resources for safety training, equipment, and initiatives.

Leadership and Collaboration:

• Lead and manage the safety team, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities.
• Collaborate with project managers, site supervisors, and other departments to integrate safety considerations into all aspects of construction projects.
• Build strong relationships with external partners, including subcontractors and regulatory agencies, to enhance safety practices.

Working Conditions:

• This position involves a mix of office work and site visits.
• Travel to different project sites and offices is required, which may include exposure to various weather conditions, noise, and physical hazards.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
