Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Database Administrator I to assist in the maintenance, optimization, and support of our database systems. This entry-level role offers the opportunity to grow your career in database administration, with hands-on exposure to database performance tuning, cloud technologies, and security best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the installation, configuration, and upgrading of database server software and related components.
- Monitor and maintain database performance, availability, and integrity.
- Perform routine tasks including backups, recovery, and performance tuning.
- Support the development and implementation of data models and database designs.
- Assist in monitoring and enforcing access controls and ensuring compliance with data privacy and security regulations.
- Contribute to the development of disaster recovery plans and procedures.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues as they arise.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for systems, reports, and workflows.
- Stay informed on industry best practices and emerging technologies.
- Actively propose and implement improvements to database systems and related processes.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
Work Experience:
- Required: Some experience (internships, coursework, or early career roles) in database administration or analysis.
- Desired: Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Foundational understanding of database systems such as SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL.
- Proficiency in SQL and query development.
- Familiarity with data modeling, database design, and normalization concepts.
- Basic knowledge of performance tuning and optimization techniques.
- Experience with tools such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), Azure Data Studio, and SSIS packages.
- Knowledge of SQL job scheduling and monitoring.
Preferred Skills:
- Exposure to Power BI or similar BI tools.
- Hands-on experience with database backup and restore procedures.
- Familiarity with data warehousing tools like Snowflake or Redshift.
- Understanding of modern programming languages such as TypeScript, SQL, Python, or Go.
- Experience with open-source RDBMS and NoSQL databases.
