Job Title: Counselor MS (Title I - Supplemental)

Primary Purpose:
Work with school faculty and staff, students, parents, and community to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at the school assigned. Counsel students to fully develop each student’s academic, career, personal, and social abilities and address the needs of special population students. This position is Title I funded and meets the intent and purpose of Title I, Part A of the ESSA grant program. The respective employee will be assigned 100% to this federal grant program’s single cost objective.
Education/Certification:
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in guidance and counseling
- Valid Texas counseling certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Experience:
- Two years of experience as a classroom teacher
Essential Job Functions:
- Teach school developmental guidance curriculum to students.
- Help teachers incorporate guidance-related information into existing curriculum.
- Provide guidance to individuals and groups of students to develop educational plans and career awareness.
- Counseling individuals and small groups about their concerns.
- Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.
- Work with school personnel and school district residents to obtain resources for students.
- Use an effective referral process to help students and others use special programs and services.
- Participate in the planning and evaluation of the campus standardized testing program.
- Interpret test and other appraisal results appropriately.
- Plan school guidance and counseling programs to ensure that they meet identified needs.
- Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the guidance program and make changes based on findings.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and board policy in the guidance and counseling area.
- Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Participate in professional development to improve skills related to the job assignment.
- Report to work in a timely manner according to assigned schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise assigned counseling aide(s) and clerical employee(s).

Furthermore, I understand that this federally funded position is covered under Texas’ Ed-Flex Statewide Administrative Waiver and requires no additional time distribution documentation as long as my work continues to meet the Ed-Flex Statewide Administrative Waiver requirements.
