A New Leaf School's summer camp at Pip and Pickles Farm offers a fun-filled summer for campers aged 4 - 14 on our 10 acre farm. Throughout the day the children will explore, relax, learn and play. Our camp schedule is set up in a way that offers our campers the power of choice as they move through their day with us.
We are looking for energetic and experienced educators who enjoy working with children outdoors. On our farm, we have a herd of goats, a flock of chickens, a forest and pond, a creek, a large organic garden, a STEM studio, and a Creative Arts workshop which help enrich the day-to-day life at camp.
The ideal candidates would have a genuine love of nature and being outdoors with children. They would have the ability to work within a team and have the physical ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions while participating in strenuous activities such as hiking, gardening, and sport games. They would also be creative in arts, theater, science, technology, engineering, and math. They would be able to help children navigate friendships and conflicts. They would be able to problem solve and be able to redirect groups of children toward positive activities and goals. The ideal candidate would arrive each day with the drive and enthusiasm needed to help make a child’s summer camp experience the best one they’ve ever had!
Orientation: May 27 -30, 2025
Camp session: June 2nd - July 25th, 2025 (June 16th & July 4th: no camp)
Hours: 7:45 AM - 3:45 PM - Monday - Friday
Duties:
- Supervise and ensure the safety of campers at all times.
- Plan, organize, and lead age-appropriate activities and games.
- Provide guidance and support to campers in their personal and social development.
- Assist with the implementation of educational programs and lessons.
- Foster a positive and inclusive camp environment.
- Manage behavior and resolve conflicts among campers.
- Maintain accurate records of camper incidents or accidents. - Maintain safe and clean environments. - Keep spaces clean and watch for areas of safety concerns.
Skills:
- Comfortable with campers in mixed-age groups ranging from 4 - 14 years old. - Experience teaching in a classroom setting, at a summer camp, youth leadership position, or nature education program.
- Ability to educate and engage children throughout their day at camp.
- Experience working with children with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Strong behavior management skills to maintain a safe and respectful camp environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with campers, parents, and staff members.
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and problem-solve on the spot
- Enthusiasm for outdoor activities and willingness to participate in camp games and events. -Create a positive and fun environment that encourages the children to participate and explore in an exciting way. Build friendly relationships with campers with the ability to still be a leader. Assist campers in making friendships and solving conflicts.
-Desire to PLAY! This is not a supervisor position. All counselors must have the desire and ability to play among the campers, engage in the activities, and create new games to play.
-Ability to work outdoors in all sorts of Tennessee summer weather.
