Responsibilities
- Obtain & analyze relevant documentation for accuracy, from controllers / CX / CDA team
- Accurately determine tariff headings & challenge tariff headings received from clients
- Processing various types of Customs declarations on CargoWise / MNS
- Check for EUR1 / declarations, permits
- Load product code and tariff headings correctly on CargoWise
- Submit Customs declarations to Customs & monitor the progress / Arrange Customs examination if required
- Attend to stopped shipments, identify issues, present solutions and ensure resolution & favorable outcomes
- Process cargo dues
- Keep up to date with changes within Customs & new / updated legislation
- Ensure all office records are kept up to date i.e. Customs clearance list on MS Teams
- Adhere to relevant Maersk policies, procedures & guidelines
- Working overtime when required
- Support, mentor and carry out training sessions for Maersk learners - Follow the curriculum established by direct leader
- Matric Certificate (Grade 12) or relevant NQF related qualification is essential
- A minimum of 5 years' experience within an air and sea freight department focused on Customs
- Knowledge of road freight and rail (RIT / RIB's)
- A good command of the English language is essential; Both written and spoken
- Good Customs knowledge in the South African environment is essential
- Tariff knowledge and exposure is essential
- Well organized and ability to work independently
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Analytical ability and proven problem-solving skills in a similar environment
- Proven ability to prioritize responsibility and work under pressure
- Must be able to operate computer programs such as Windows and any other software that is standard within the industry
- Team player
- Knowledge of Incoterms ® essential
- Knowledge of CargoWise clearing system mandatory
