Position Overview
The Database Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing database solutions that support a high-volume federal data reporting system. Work may involve connecting mainframe DB2 data with modern relational or cloud-based databases.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Architect, implement, and maintain databases across DB2 (mainframe), Oracle, or other RDBMS platforms.
• Optimize schemas, indexes, and queries for high throughput and minimal latency.
• Develop data models that support reporting/analytics needs, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Ensure compliance with federal security standards, including encryption and role-based access.
• Collaborate with development teams to design efficient ETL/ELT workflows.
Required experience and skills
• 5 years of hands-on database design/administration experience.
• Expert-level SQL skills, performance tuning, and knowledge of mainframe-based data ingestion.
• Experience working with MicroStrategy for data consumption or report generation.
• Strong capacity-planning, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery planning abilities.
Preferred experience and skills
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Data Management, or related field.
• Certifications in Oracle, IBM DB2, or cloud database services.
• Federal contracting experience supporting data analytics/reporting solutions.
