Job Title : Part Time Temp.Teaching Artist, Music

Department : Arts & Creative Expressions (ACE)

Reports to : Sr. Music Program Manager

FLSA Status : Non-Exempt / Up to 25 hours per week

A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth and community center in South Central

Los Angeles. APCH provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, fitness and health and wellness opportunities. As youth participate in our programs, they discover interests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them. Our goal is to increase the likelihood that youth will stay in school, pursue higher education, attain viable jobs, and become active community members capable of making positive change in the world in which they live.

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Sr. Music Program Manager, the Part Time Temp. Teaching Artist (Music) is responsible for instructing multi-disciplinary music workshops and supporting general program administration. The Part Time Temp. Teaching Artist (Music) implements activities that align with REACH objectives, agency best practices, and program efficiencies, while also providing key support in program application and policy.

PROGRAM INSTRUCTION & CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

Provide consistent instruction in various musical disciplines (e.g., strings, percussion, brass, woodwinds, music recording).
Facilitate music workshops and classes during the school year (August-May), ensuring a high level of engagement and learning.
Conduct specialty music camps and / or provide music instruction to support general day camps during the summer months (June-July).
Develop and write lesson plans for music programming that align with the California State Arts Standards and California Common Core standards, with guidance provided as needed.
Monitor and assess members' musical progress, providing feedback and support to enhance their skills and performance.
Instruct and accompany members in ensembles, fostering teamwork and collaboration in musical performances.
Maintain the cleanliness and organization of music spaces weekly, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
Ensure all music technology and equipment are in working order to support programming and instruction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Represent the Music Program at off-campus events, performances, and conferences, ensuring member participation as required.

Assist APCH staff and volunteers in planning and executing special events, providing expertise in music-related aspects including audio related needs

Supervise members during program activities and agency field trips, ensuring safety and adherence to program guidelines.

Assist the Music Program Senior Manager in identifying, assessing, and placing AMP (Accelerated Music Program) participants in appropriate music programs.

Maintain communication with parents regarding class performance, AMP attendance, and other relevant updates.

Coordinate with performers and technical crews on rehearsals, production schedules, and logistics to ensure smooth operations.

Provide direction and guidance to contractors, volunteers, interns, and support staff as assigned, ensuring alignment with program objectives.

Oversee instrument maintenance, repairs, and inventory management, ensuring all instruments are in optimal condition, accurately tracked, and properly accounted for during distribution and return.

Adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards and values at all times

Perform other tasks as assigned

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

Provides administrative support to the Music Program including but not limited to : member assessment, recording program attendance, member and parent correspondence

Assist the Music Program Senior Manager in the recruitment and retention of members for the APCH Accelerated Music Program (AMP)

Assist the Music Program Senior Manager in the management of 3rd party tracking tools for all program activities

Submits appropriate paperwork and reports in a timely and efficient manner

Process music program invoices as needed

Qualifications

Music Degree or proof of equivalent training / experience in related field

2-3 years providing classroom or group instruction

2-3 years working with youth population

2-3 years experience in organizing events

2-3 years administrative experience

Skilled with Google suite, Zoom, Dropbox and other online platforms

Physical and Mental Demands

Able to work in a dynamic and high noise level environment typical of a youth center

Walking, standing required on daily basis

Sitting and use of hands / vision for computer work for extended periods of time

Lift up to 30 pounds occasionally

Valid driver's license

Additional Information

Must be willing to work Monday - Friday schedule

Must be willing to be flexible and available for night and weekend performances
