Department : Arts & Creative Expressions (ACE)
Reports to : Sr. Music Program Manager
FLSA Status : Non-Exempt / Up to 25 hours per week
A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth and community center in South Central
Los Angeles. APCH provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, fitness and health and wellness opportunities. As youth participate in our programs, they discover interests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them. Our goal is to increase the likelihood that youth will stay in school, pursue higher education, attain viable jobs, and become active community members capable of making positive change in the world in which they live.
SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Sr. Music Program Manager, the Part Time Temp. Teaching Artist (Music) is responsible for instructing multi-disciplinary music workshops and supporting general program administration. The Part Time Temp. Teaching Artist (Music) implements activities that align with REACH objectives, agency best practices, and program efficiencies, while also providing key support in program application and policy.
PROGRAM INSTRUCTION & CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
- Provide consistent instruction in various musical disciplines (e.g., strings, percussion, brass, woodwinds, music recording).
- Facilitate music workshops and classes during the school year (August-May), ensuring a high level of engagement and learning.
- Conduct specialty music camps and / or provide music instruction to support general day camps during the summer months (June-July).
- Develop and write lesson plans for music programming that align with the California State Arts Standards and California Common Core standards, with guidance provided as needed.
- Monitor and assess members' musical progress, providing feedback and support to enhance their skills and performance.
- Instruct and accompany members in ensembles, fostering teamwork and collaboration in musical performances.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of music spaces weekly, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
- Ensure all music technology and equipment are in working order to support programming and instruction.
