Requirements
To be a good fit for the VDC Technician, you will have:
- 2 or 4-year degree in CAD related field is preferred.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in the use and application of Revit for producing construction and fabrication drawings.
- Experienced in use of Revit Family Editor for creation/management of custom families.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in the construction industry.
- Experience with mechanical systems design and fabrication, specifically ventilation duct, piping, and plumbing preferred.
- Competency in the use/application of AutoCAD/Navisworks.
- Experience with Revit Fabrication Products (CADMep, CAMduct)

The Role
You will join the Virtual Design and Construction Department, which includes a VDC Dept. Manager, Coordination Manager, another VDC Technician, and three Trade Content Developers (VDC Designers).
As part of the A&R Mechanical Contractors Virtual Design and Construction Department, the VDC Technician will assist in the creation of Shop Drawings, Hanger/Trimble Drawings, Penetration Drawings and related work. This position will be providing 3D design and BIM (Building Information Modeling) support to construction efforts, as well as drafting and modeling a variety of mechanical system elements, producing drawings, and extracting useful data from virtual building models. The VDC Technician will provide critical support to our in-house mechanical design efforts and the overall business by working with the VDC Manager/Designers to aid in the creation of content/deliverables with Revit as the main tool.
We take an interdisciplinary approach, and you will gather information from different subject matter experts. Content development can be a volume push, and at any given time you will support multiple projects -- it will be up to you to balance priorities.
More specifically, you will:
- Create detailed drawings used for Shop Fabrication/Field
- Installation (Spool/Coordination/Layout).
- Create custom library components/equipment using Revit’s Family Editor.
- Error check completed work against construction documents.
- Model 3D solids from a VDC Dept. performed laser scan.
- Work with VDC Manager/Designers to extract model data for use in fabrication and construction.
- Update as-built drawings for final documentation of the project.
