Position Overview: The Estimator & Project Manager will primarily focus on providing detailed cost estimates and overseeing the execution of excavation and grading projects. The primary emphasis of the role will be to accurately estimate project cost, preparing competitive bids, and ensure financial success while improving relationships with clients, subcontractors and vendors.
- Estimating & Bidding:
- Lead the preparation of accurate cost estimates for excavation and grading projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs. Ensure all bids are, accurate, competitive and aligned with project specifications.
- Review project plans and specifications to conduct detailed quantity takeoffs, and work with suppliers and subcontractors to gather and evaluate pricing for accurate bid submissions.
- Cost Analysis:
- Analyze project costs and develop cost-effective solutions to enhance project profitability while maintaining quality.
- Assess risks, market conditions, and alternative materials or methods to provide clients with value-engineered options that ensure projects remain within budget.
- Project Budgeting and Financial Management:
- Oversee project budgets, track expenditures, and manage cash flow, ensuring accurate cost forecasting and financial reporting.
- Provide ongoing financial tracking throughout the project, making adjustments as necessary to ensure profitability and timely completion.
- Risk Management & Compliance:
- Identify project risks during the estimating phase and implement strategies to mitigate these risks during execution. Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Provide estimates that reflect potential risks, and work closely with the project team to identify and address challenges as the project progresses.
- Client & Stakeholder Relations:
- Serve as the main point of contact for clients during the estimating and bidding process. Present bids, clarify project details, and maintain positive relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate closely with clients to ensure that estimates align with their expectations and objectives, adjusting bids as necessary based on feedback.
- Software Proficiency:
- Utilize project management and bidding software (e.g., Procore, HCSS, or similar) to streamline the estimation process, track project progress, and ensure accurate data management.
- Leverage software tools to manage takeoffs, generate accurate bids, track project performance, and streamline communications among stakeholders.
- Project Coordination:
- Coordinate with project managers, field crews, and subcontractors to ensure the successful execution of projects based on initial estimates.
- Ensure that projects adhere to the estimated scope and budget, adjusting resources and timelines as necessary to meet client expectations and minimize costs.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Proven experience in estimating and bidding for heavy civil construction projects, particularly excavation and grading.
- Strong knowledge of construction processes, materials, and equipment.
- Proficiency in bidding software; knowledge of project management software (e.g., Procore, HCSS, or similar).
- Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
