Job Summary
The Referral Coordinator plays a crucial role in the healthcare setting by managing patient referrals efficiently and ensuring seamless coordination between healthcare providers.
A referral specialist is responsible for ensuring that patients have access to other specialty healthcare providers under their insurance. As a referral special, you are an expert in understanding various insurance plans and medical services. Keep patients informed o informed of the status of the referral and specialist information.
Duties
- Coordinate patient referrals from primary care physicians to specialists or other healthcare providers
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain any necessary per-authorizations for referrals
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date referral records in electronic medical records systems
- Communicate with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies regarding referral status
- Ensure compliance with medical coding standards such as ICD-10 and ICD-9
- Assist in scheduling appointments for patients with referred providers
- Collaborate with medical office staff to facilitate the referral process smoothly
- Perform insurance verification and authorization processes
- Utilize knowledge of medical terminology to accurately document referral information
