The Scrum Master IV plays a critical role within Agile teams, acting as a seasoned servant-leader who ensures that multiple teams adhere to Scrum principles and Agile practices. This role involves not only facilitating effective team collaboration and removing obstacles to progress but also mentoring less experienced Scrum Masters and driving strategic improvements across the organization. The Scrum Master IV fosters an environment of continuous learning and improvement, championing Agile values and practices at all levels. Additionally, the Scrum Master IV serves as a change agent, helping to manage and implement organizational changes that enhance team performance and overall project outcomes.
What you will do:
- Organize and lead all Scrum ceremonies including Daily Standups, Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives for multiple teams. Ensure these meetings are productive and produce positive team and partner interactions and outcomes. Mentor other Scrum Masters in effective facilitation techniques.
- Proactively identify and address impediments that may hinder the teams progress. Work with external stakeholders to remove blockers and facilitate the teams' progress. Escalate systemic impediments to senior management and work towards long-term solutions.
- Coach team members on Agile principles and the Scrum framework. Guide the teams towards self-organization and cross-functionality. Help the teams and the organization to understand and enact Scrum and empirical product development. Advocate for Agile principles, values, and practices across the organization to foster a broader understanding and support for Agile methodologies. Mentor less experienced Scrum Masters and Agile practitioners.
- Lead by example, demonstrating a commitment to Agile values and principles. Foster a culture of trust, collaboration, and accountability within the teams. Act as a servant-leader, prioritizing the needs of the teams and helping them to succeed. Provide leadership and direction to Scrum Masters and Agile coaches within the organization. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure alignment on goals and progress. Facilitate discussions and negotiations between the teams and stakeholders. Manage stakeholder expectations and foster strong working relationships.
- Provide Agile coaching to team members and stakeholders to enhance their understanding and application of Agile practices. Support the development of Agile skills and mindsets across the organization. Conduct Agile training sessions and workshops as needed. Drive organizational-wide Agile coaching initiatives. Advocate for Agile practices within the teams and across the organization. Participate in and contribute to the Agile community of practice. Represent the organization in Agile forums and communities.
- Assist the Product Owners with managing the product backlog and planning releases. Ensure that the teams understand the goals, scope, and product domain. Facilitate communication between the Product Owners and the development teams. Provide strategic guidance to Product Owners on Agile best practices.
- Track and report on teams progress and performance using Agile metrics. Use data to identify areas for improvement and support the teams in implementing changes. Provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership based on team performance metrics.
- Support the teams and organization in managing changes effectively. Facilitate smooth transitions during organizational or project changes. Help the teams adapt to new processes, tools, or changes in the business environment. Lead change management efforts and drive organizational change initiatives.
- Bachelor's Degree Business Management, Information Technology, Computer Science, or Software Engineering required
- Master's Degree Business Management, Information Technology, Computer Science, or Software Engineering preferred
- 6-8 years Experience working in a Scrum Master role or similar capacity within an Agile environment required
- Proven track record of facilitating Scrum ceremonies and driving continuous improvement initiatives across multiple teams. required
- Demonstrated success in coaching teams and individuals on Agile practices, leading to increased team performance and delivery of high-quality products. required
- Experience in removing impediments and collaborating with external stakeholders to ensure smooth project progress. required
- Background in software development, IT project management, or related field is preferred, providing a solid foundation for understanding the technical aspects of the teams' work. required
- Experience with Agile transformations and scaling frameworks (e.g., SAFe, LeSS, Scrum@Scale) preferred
- Scrum Master Certification (either CSM, A-CSM, SMC, ASMC, PSM) Required
- Agile Coaching Certification (RAC, ICP-ACC, ICP-ATF) or equivalent Preferred
- Change Management Certification (CMP from Prosci ADKAR) Preferred
