Communications Manager
This role is responsible for owning and executing media strategy that shapes how people see AAA Washington and guiding strategy to ensure high-profile media coverage. Also, responsible for writing and editing press materials, building media relationships, and crafting compelling customer narratives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leads and executes AAA Washington’s external communications strategy, shaping public perception and reinforcing all services of the brand.
Serves as the primary liaison with Public Relations agency, managing strategy, execution, and performance to maximize impact across earned media, executive communications, and brand storytelling.
Develops and drives proactive media relations efforts to secure high-impact consumer and business media placements at both local and national levels.
Writes, edits, and refines press releases, media pitches, and executive messaging—owning both strategy and execution to ensure compelling, on-brand storytelling.
Expands executive visibility, identifying opportunities for thought leadership, speaking engagements, and strategy media appearances.
Supports AAA Washington’s public affairs efforts by crafting media narratives around policy and advocacy priorities, including traffic safety, insurance, and mobility.
Collaborates cross-functionally with internal teams, including marketing, digital, membership, and more, to ensure cohesive storytelling g across all communications.
Identifies and executes creative press opportunities to drive membership growth, leveraging strategic brand partnerships and influencer collaborations.
Analyzes media performance and PR metrics, providing insights and recommendations for optimizing impacts.
Contributes to a positive team dynamic through respectful interactions, positive contributions, and active collaboration to achieve department and organizational goals.
Incorporates AAA’s vision, mission and values in day-to-day activities and behaviors; guides and motivates others to remain committed to AAA’s vision mission and values.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree (BA) in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
6 years’ experience in external communications, public relations, or corporate communications.
2 years’ experience managing PR agencies and executive media strategies that drive measurable impact.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous experience in consumer PR, corporate communications, and policy-related media relations
Previous experience in executive positioning and thought leadership strategy
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the Pacific Northwest media landscape and national media trends preferred.
Exceptional storytelling, writing, and editing skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
Strong media relations expertise with a track record of securing press coverage.
Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and collaborate across teams.
Strategic problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to measuring PR success
Excellent project management skills, balancing long-term strategy with real-time media responsiveness.
Experience successfully collaborating professionally and diplomatically with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to establish, nurture, and optimize key internal and external partnerships and influence organizational change.
SALARY: The salary range for this role is $98,634 - $113,424 and is based on experience.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical environment is typical of a standard office space. It requires the employee to work inside for the duration of work. Must be able to remain in a stationary position, sitting for more than 50% of the time. This position will require occasionally moving about inside the office to access equipment, cabinets, etc. May work around office equipment which could be noisy, such as copiers and fax machines.
