The NC State University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Data Science Teaching Librarian. The Data & Visualization Services (DVS) department helps students and other researchers develop critical data science and visualization skills through expert consultation, workshops, and classroom instruction. The department provides support for a wide range of data lifecycle activities including data collection, discovery, access, evaluation, cleaning, preprocessing, transformation, modeling, analysis, geospatial techniques, and visualization. DVS collaborates with others in the Libraries and with NC State’s Data Science and AI Academy (DSA), a university-wide effort to meet the university’s growing needs for data science research, education, and expertise.
Responsibilities :
- Design, develop, and deliver training sessions on data and visualization topics, as part of an open workshop series offered to the university community and / or as course-integrated instruction sessions.
- Coordinate the DVS open workshop series and / or instruction program, including creating and documenting procedures, tracking completion of assessment needs, reviewing and assessing offerings, and developing outreach strategies.
- Conduct outreach to and engage with faculty, campus groups, and external partners to support the university’s data and visualization needs.
- Provide training on delivering workshop-style instruction to graduate student assistants and other members of DVS.
- Provide consultative support for students, faculty, and researchers on data science and visualization topics.
- Collaborate with colleagues and other university faculty on data-related initiatives and projects, and contribute to departmental projects and initiatives.
- Participate in library planning and serve on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams.
- Engage in professional development and contribute to developments in the field.
This position is based in North Carolina and is eligible for flexible hours with a hybrid work environment. This position will require frequent onsite work.
