Description
Position Summary
The Assistant Instructor is responsible for the proper implementation of each individual’s activity schedule and service plan. The Assistant Instructor will provide instruction, supervision, and support to individuals during all hours of operation.
Essential Job Functions
- Read and become familiar with the Day Service Plan for each individual;
- Implement Habilitation Service Plan / Valued Outcome by actively modeling tasks for individuals and using all appropriate prompt levels as necessary;
- Chart and measure success as outlined in each Day Service Plan;
- Assist in completion of any necessary assessments and evaluations needed for the completion of the Day Service Plan;
- Lead individuals into community sites using public transportation to complete goals / outcomes as described in the individuals’ Day Service Plan;
- Participate, as an equal member of the team in assisting any individual who needs help in toileting, eating or behavior;
- Establish rapport with community members, staff and the individuals. Provide proper supervision, good role modeling and crisis intervention as needed;
- Help to maintain a harmonious and productive atmosphere in the community and within the Day Program setting;
- Be alert to individual medical concerns and report promptly, filling out incident / accident reports as needed;
- Assist in maintenance and organization of daily logs / reports and all appropriate documentation related to each individual’s service plan;
- Attend meetings, orientations, in-services as deemed necessary;
- Escort individuals to doctor’s office or emergency room when needed;
- Supervise lunch for the Day Program individuals;
- Follow the directives of the Instructors and Administrators;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or its equivalent;
- At least 1 year’s work experience with the developmentally disabled preferred;
- A strong desire to work with the developmentally disabled in a community setting;
- Willingness to travel to assigned locations to implement;
- Certification in CPR, First Aid, SCIP or a commitment to obtain and maintain certification;
- Excellent verbal and communication skills;
- Strong Interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate;
- Ability to manage and resolve conflict;
- Problem Solving and Critical thinking skills.
