Job Summary:The Radiologic Technologist - Computed Tomography (Rad Tech-CT) provides exceptional healthcare services by utilizing advanced x-ray energy and computer processing techniques to assist in the diagnosis or treatment of patients. This role involves performing computed tomography procedures to produce sectional anatomical images for interpretation by licensed practitioners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care and Communication:
- Verify patient identity and medical orders prior to examinations.
- Obtain and document patient clinical history, ensuring effective communication with patients and their families throughout the process.
- CT Equipment Operation:
- Demonstrate proficiency in operating computed tomographic equipment and accessories.
- Understand and apply CT techniques, safety protocols, and departmental policies to ensure high-quality imaging.
- Image Acquisition and Evaluation:
- Analyze clinical information to determine appropriate scanning protocols.
- Edit scan protocols based on real-time observations to optimize diagnostic quality.
- Evaluate images for technical quality, adjusting display parameters as needed.
- Radiation Safety:
- Implement radiation protection measures to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others.
- Venipuncture and Contrast Administration:
- Perform venipuncture with accuracy and administer contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Equipment Maintenance and Quality Assurance:
- Conduct diagnostic testing on equipment, reporting any malfunctions promptly.
- Collaborate with engineering teams for equipment servicing and perform quality assurance scans.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Graduate of a Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited radiography program or equivalent.
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Active certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Radiographer Operators Certificate (ROC) in Kentucky or applicable state.
- Advanced ARRT certification in CT is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Working Environment:
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, blood, body fluids, and potential toxic chemicals.
- Risk of radiation exposure; adherence to safety protocols is essential.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to frequently lift and move items up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
- Requires fine motor skills for equipment operation and patient care.
- Positioning oneself to accommodate patient needs and effective communication skills are essential.
