What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director Sustainability position at Aalberts integrated piping systems?
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive sustainability strategy aligned with our company's goals, the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and industry best practices, particularly focusing on responsible consumption and production.
- Oversee the improvement of our product portfolio to enhance sustainability, including developing eco-friendly materials and more energy-efficient valve and piping systems.
- Lead initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of our foundry and manufacturing operations, focusing on energy efficiency, waste reduction, and water conservation.
- Collaborate with R&D/product development teams to innovate sustainable coating processes for valves and actuators, prioritizing low-VOC and zero-emission options.
- Sustainability data: Implement, monitor and report on key sustainability performance metrics across the organization, including carbon emissions, energy consumption, and waste diversion rates.
- Evaluate sustainability measurements, declarations, and other frameworks
- Determine which will be relevant to Aalberts IPSA and our SDGs
- Work with internal and external resources to create a database of key sustainability metrics and supporting data
- Be the subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders on all sustainable product-specific issues, managing day to day queries and supporting internal teams
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and pursue relevant sustainability certifications (e.g., ISO 14001).
- Engage with stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and local communities, to communicate our sustainability efforts and foster partnerships.
- Develop and deliver sustainability training programs for employees at all levels of the organization.
- Establish Aalberts IPSA product sustainability data
Key Performance Indicators:
- Reduction in carbon emissions and energy consumption across manufacturing operations.
- Increase in the percentage of product portfolio classified as sustainable or eco-friendly.
- Improvement in waste diversion rates and implementation of circular economy practices.
- Achievement of sustainability certifications and compliance with environmental standards.
- Successful engagement of customers and employees in sustainability initiatives and training programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in sustainability roles
- Proven track record of implementing successful sustainability initiatives in manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations and sustainability best practices in the valve and piping industry.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency in data analysis and sustainability reporting tools.
Physical Requirements:
- Remain in a stationary position for extended periods, typically 50% or more of the workday.

Work Environment:
- Primary work location is in an office setting, in-person at the Charlotte HQ 3 days/week
