Position Summary:

Primary responsibilities are centered on the strategic planning and coordination of all resident programs within an Active Adult Community. This involves big-picture thinking supported by a focus on the logistics and tactical aspects related to planning community events and activities that include, but are not limited to: recreation, travel, culture, social interaction, entertainment and general education; as well as curricula encompassing fitness and health-related activities and programming.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Community Manager to identify, coordinate and market all community events, programs and services. 
  • Assist with oversight of support staff and facilitators to ensure facilities, events, classes and customer service meets the needs of the residents.
  • Secure all entertainment, food, decorations, and items necessary to carryout events.
  • Assess overall success of events and programming through focus groups and evaluations.
  • Respond promptly to communications and follow through on commitments made to others, show courtesy and respect to all customers and listen openly to the ideas of others.
  • Respond calmly and tactfully to problem situations and discuss concerns in a constructive manner with persons who need to be involved.
  • Promptly correct areas of improvement as identified by the supervisor.
  • Uphold the organization’s values, philosophy, procedures and policies.
  • Attend Board and committee meetings.
  • Other related duties as directed.

Teamwork

  • Develop an active volunteer program among residents, solicit input and involvement from residents to stimulate awareness and participation.
  • Work with residents to assist in the establishment of interest groups and chartered clubs.   
  • Build and maintain relationships with other staff, departments, and community members.
  • Network with other community services and professionals to provide programs and referrals.
  • Attend or speak at local and national meetings and trainings.
  • Participate in marketing initiatives including those launched by other departments.

Programming

  • Develop and implement wellness program that include multiple dimensions of wellness.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate fitness, aquatics and health education activities such as group exercise classes, health screenings, presentations, health fairs, incentive programs and other awareness/interventions campaigns.
  • Organize special events, such as charity fundraisers and events co-sponsored with resident groups.
  • Schedule and organize guest speaker events.
  • Promote programs directly through demonstrations, community information distribution channels, and special programs; promote indirectly through engaging the support of all adjunct staff.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive member retention program with measurable outcomes.

Management

  • Develop annual goals and tracking/evaluation systems to report on outcomes and results.
  • Coordinate with the community manager to hire, train, supervise and evaluate fitness specialists, volunteers, and contract fitness instructors.
  • Coordinate with the community manager to maintain fitness equipment and facility in a manner consistent with ACSM standards.
  • Contribute to development of annual budget and plan, monitor adherence to budget, prepare projections, and make recommendations.
  • Establish, direct and lead resident activity and/or wellness advisory committee(s); meet with committee(s) regularly as a means to obtain and address resident input and concerns.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

  • Knowledge of community and local resources.
  • Ability to design and coordinate lifestyle and wellness programs that enrich the quality of life and enhance the vibrancy and overall experience of living within an Active Adult Community.
  • Effective and dynamic public speaking skills. 
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills paired with high energy, initiative, and enthusiasm.
  • Computer proficiency with respect to Microsoft Office Suite, database software, internet and website portals, point of sale system, registration processes, policies and procedures, equipment, material and products, etc.
  • Ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Ability to interact and work positively and effectively with staff, volunteers and board members at all levels.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions, changes and delays while remaining focused.
  • Ability to problem solve, exercising good judgment and decision making.
  • Ability to adapt and adjust to change.
