Overview
We are currently seeking a Portfolio Manager (PM) to work closely with our insurance clients. The individual will be responsible for leading and servicing client relationships and managing investment grade fixed income portfolios. The PM also advises clients on asset allocation decisions across high yield, equities, and various alternative investment strategies.
Job Summary
The PM will work in portfolio management teams and have responsibility for multiple client relationships. This includes working closely with other members of the client portfolio management team, the internal trade desk, and the analyst teams to implement investment ideas in each client portfolio as appropriate. A successful PM must understand the nuances of each client’s business and how AAM can best support the needs of the client. The PM will also have significant responsibility for client service. Client service will include informal reporting as well as video and in-person meetings. PMs also support career growth of Assistant Portfolio Managers, contribute in the new business process, and create thought leadership. The ideal candidate will have a combination of portfolio management and client relationship management skills and an understanding of insurance company operations. The full-time position is located in downtown Chicago with some flexibility for a hybrid schedule under company policy.
Primary Responsibilities
· Manage client relationships including all aspects of service and reporting with support from the Assistant PM and Operations team
· Work collaboratively with AAM’s Insurance Strategist and AAM investment professionals including Traders and Research Analysts, to understand a client’s objectives and design an investment strategy to achieve those investment objectives.
· Oversee direct management of a number of client investment portfolios and implement a portfolio strategy across investment grade fixed income sectors to achieve each client’s objectives using the ideas generated from our strategy, research and trading teams.
· Participate in firm-wide investment strategy committees within AAM to develop investment themes to be implemented across client portfolios
· Work collaboratively as part of an investment team that includes another PM and an Assistant PM to manage portfolios and relationships
· Lead and participate in client meetings and formal presentations to Executive Officers, Investment Committees and/or Boards of Directors
· Monitor portfolio risk positioning, compliance and performance
· Demonstrate interest in our clients, their business, and their insurance products.
· Mentor and manage an Assistant PM to strengthen his/her investment and communication skills.
· Contribute to firm AUM growth by supporting AAM’s Sales and Marketing team in business development opportunities and thought leadership production
Candidate Requirements
· A minimum of 7 years (10 preferred) of fixed income portfolio management experience
· College degree in finance, accounting, math, economics, computer science or a related field with an MBA preferred
· CFA Charter required
· Experience with fixed income portfolio management systems, especially BondEdge and Bloomberg
· Proficiency managing across investment grade segments including Government, Credit, Mortgage, CMBS, ABS, and Municipals
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Excellent presentation skills
· A keen attention to detail while maintaining a sense of urgency
· Intellectual curiosity and interest in capital markets
· A motivated, competitive, self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team-oriented organization
Pay
The annual salary range is $125,000 to a maximum of $300,000. AAM also provides a discretionary bonus program based on firm and employee performance.
