OBJECTIVE Qualified High School Social Studies teachers should be competent at organizing and delivering education curriculums to groups of students in an effective way. A Social Studies Teacher must understand the fundamentals of their teaching subject and be able to explain them to students as needed. This position must also supervise and assess student performance. Plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program within the classroom that promotes a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The role of a Social Studies teacher is to inspire, motivate, encourage, and educate learners. Social Studies teachers should have excellent interpersonal, communication, and debate skills. They should be able to remain calm under pressure, have strong multitasking abilities, and have a sound knowledge of current events.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Teaches knowledge and skills in social studies, history, American government, political science, or humanities to secondary students utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education. Develops students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, which are fundamental to effective communication and literate citizenship. Plans for a balanced social science program involving factual background material, material on current events, discussion, and other appropriate activities. Creates a classroom learning environment representing the taught content and engaging learners. Provides appropriate instruction and modifications for students with special needs, including exceptional education students and students with limited English proficiency. Differentiate instruction to meet diverse students' needs to provide an effective program that meets district requirements and can work with Special Education and ELL teachers. Participates in the administration of state and / or standardized testing as assigned; establishes the appropriate testing environment and ensures test security by adhering to testing procedures and policy manuals. Uses ongoing formative and summative assessments to monitor and document student progress; interprets and uses data (including but not limited to standardized tests and other test results) for diagnostic and instructional planning purposes to provide feedback to all stakeholders, to acquire district support when necessary, and to enhance student achievement. Cooperate in making available time for student help and parent conferences outside of school hours when requested under reasonable terms. Assists in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Uses teacher allocation funds to support instructional needs. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school / workplace matters, including social media and online platforms. Maintains and engages in personal and professional growth, adheres to professional standards, and demonstrates professional ethics, sound judgment, and leadership. Attend all required training meetings and workshops. Attends and participates in faculty meetings. Cooperates and collaborates with other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods A role model for students and supports the school district's mission. Works well with all administrators, teachers, and other school staff members. Uses various questioning techniques that lead students to higher levels of thinking, including analyzing, synthesizing, hypothesizing, and testing hypotheses and value judgments. Communicate with students understandably and effectively about daily lessons and instructions. Prepare lesson materials and grade papers, manage the classroom, and evaluate and give feedback to students. Engage students in the learning process. Develop a curriculum to meet developmental goals and instructional activities. Exercise open and respectful communication with students. Manage student behavior in accordance with outlined guidelines. Collaborate with school administration in enforcing rules of behavior, class participation, and conduct. Developing flexible, effective teaching tools and methods to help students learn social studies. Create and assign learning projects, essays, tests, quizzes, and homework for students, then grade their performance accurately on these assignments. Working with students individually if they need extra help and support in their coursework. Provide a safe, thriving, and respectful environment for all students in the classroom and school campus. Measure the student's progress and accomplishments toward their academic achievements regularly and provide progress reports as required. Develop and maintain an effective level of communication with appropriate personnel. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence. Attend workshops and training to advance professional development further. Perform other duties as assigned or required. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE Required : A minimum of three years teaching experience in a Texas Public School. Required : Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION Required : Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Preferred : Degree in Education, with a focus on Social Studies. Preferred : Major in History Preferred : Valid Texas Certification in your area of instruction.
