Key Responsibilities:
Safety Program Implementation & Oversight:
- Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures specific to the construction jobsite.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, local safety standards, and company safety policies.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure safe work practices and hazard control measures are in place.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Perform daily walkthroughs of the jobsite to identify potential hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Document and report unsafe acts, conditions, and near misses, taking immediate corrective actions when necessary.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of hazardous materials, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines.
- Inspect and ensure that all machinery and equipment on-site are operating safely and meet regulatory standards.
- Conduct safety orientations for new workers and subcontractors before they begin work on-site.
- Lead regular toolbox talks and safety meetings to promote safety awareness and address any concerns.
- Ensure all workers are trained in the proper use of equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist in the development and implementation of specialized safety training as needed for high-risk tasks.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, including root cause analysis.
- Prepare detailed reports documenting incidents, corrective actions, and follow-up procedures.
- Collaborate with management to implement corrective actions and preventative measures based on incident findings.
- Maintain accurate records of all incidents and safety reports.
- Develop and maintain emergency response procedures, including fire, medical, and evacuation plans.
- Ensure emergency response equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, eyewash stations) is readily available and functional.
- Conduct emergency drills (fire drills, evacuation drills, etc.) to ensure workers are prepared in the event of an emergency.
- Maintain and update all safety-related documentation, including safety logs, incident reports, training records, and safety audits.
- Submit weekly or monthly safety reports to the Safety Manager or Project Manager, summarizing site safety performance.
- Assist in preparing safety reports for regulatory compliance and audits.
- Serve as the main point of contact for safety-related matters on the jobsite.
- Work closely with supervisors, workers, and subcontractors to address safety concerns and ensure proper safety procedures are being followed.
- Encourage a culture of safety by promoting open communication and reporting of safety hazards or unsafe practices.
- High School Diploma or GED required. A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field is preferred.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification (required).
- First Aid/CPR Certification (required).
- Additional certifications such as OSHA 500, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) are a plus.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a construction safety role.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and construction industry best practices.
- Must be 21 years or older
- Must have a clean driving record; Recommended bring 10 year MVR to interview.
- Have a valid SC Drivers license in good standing with clean MVR.
- Experience conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to assess hazards and risks quickly and effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management software/tools.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency situations calmly.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to walk, stand, and inspect construction sites for long periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks related to safety inspections.
- This position involves working on a construction jobsite, often in outdoor environments with varying weather conditions.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots will be provided and must be worn at all times.
- Occasional overtime may be required to ensure safety protocols are followed during project deadlines.
