OVERVIEW:
AB Consulting GSS is a U.S.-based supplier of contract technical talent to the automotive industry. A major industrial client is seeking an experienced and dedicated Motor Management Specialist to oversee the maintenance, repair, and optimization of high-horsepower (> 100 HP) AC and DC motors at its existing facility in Danville, Virginia.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Motor Management Specialist will report to the plant’s Engineering & Maintenance Manager. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of motor technologies, diagnostics, and predictive maintenance strategies. This role requires a proactive approach to ensuring that motors operate efficiently and reliably, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity.
Standard working time will be 7:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday. Some amount of weekday, nighttime, weekend, and holiday overtime may also apply. This is a contract position, 100% on-site. Computer workstation and software will be provided.

CONTRACT TYPE: 1099 Independent Contractor
START DATE: January 6, 2025
DURATION: 12 months with some likelihood of extension
QUALIFICATIONS:
· 5 years of experience in an industrial maintenance lead or supervisory role.
· An associate’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering technology, or industrial maintenance technology, or a Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician or Professional (CMRT or CMRP) certification will be strongly preferred.
· Good experience and familiarity with troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, installing, and aligning large-horsepower (>100 HP) industrial motors.
· Experience conducting and/or coordinating motor tests such as Megger tests, PdMA monitoring, thermal and vibration checks, etc., with the ability to create reports, interpret the results and implement effective solutions.
· Understanding and experience with the boring, fitting, and alignment of large motor couplings, including the use of laser alignment tools.
· Experience in developing, writing, and executing root cause failure analyses, and preventive and predictive maintenance plans and schedules.
· Experience in managing maintenance projects, including scheduling, resource allocation, and vendor coordination.
· Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, and diagrams.
· Strong commitment to safety, with a thorough understanding of safe industrial work protocols and best practices.
· Ability to demonstrate effective teamwork, maintain a professional demeanor, and foster positive relationships inside and outside the team
· English business proficiency
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the plant’s motor management program including preventative and predictive maintenance programs, root cause failure analyses (RFCAs), and tracking and control of motor repairs and critical spare parts.
- Schedule and coordinate the activities of the plant maintenance team and outside contractors to complete regular motor maintenance and troubleshooting activities such as visual checks, insulation tests, current tests, vibration analysis, thermography, lubrication, and alignment checks.
- Participate in motor troubleshooting and perform hands-on tests using Megger and PdMA tools, etc.
- Issue reports, make recommendations, and plan the work to keep motors operating efficiently and reliably.
- Maintain inventory of spare motors and motor-related parts.
- Send motors and parts out for repair, follow the work to make sure that parts are received on time and properly repaired.
- Effectively coordinate repair activities with plant personnel, contractors, and equipment suppliers.
- Maintain clear and well-organized documentation.
