JOB HIGHLIGHT
ABFS is looking for a Route Mechanic Helper to join our mobile facilities engineering team for our client account based in Morristown, NJ. While you will start each day in Morristown, you will be working throughout the state of NJ alongside an experienced route mechanic in one of our vans.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the route mechanic with engineering operations
- Assists the route mechanic with complex preventive maintenance and corrective repair of buildings, industrial systems, vehicles, equipment, and grounds.
- Under the supervision of the route mechanic, monitors building system operations and performance.
- Utilizes several trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, heating, and cooling under route mechanic supervision.
- Supports properties of various sizes, from single room suites to multi-story suburban office buildings statewide.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Complies with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and Company directives related to building operations and work safety.
- Consults with clients/route mechanic to schedule preventive maintenance and other downtime to minimize business interruption and inconvenience.
- Monitors building systems including fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing to ensure operation of equipment is within design capabilities and achieves environmental conditions prescribed by client.
- Ensures equipment is fully functional and client space is in prime working condition following completion of work
- Responds quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred
- 2 years experience in the building trades or HVAC
CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES
Certification or entry level experience in three or more of the following preferred:
- Electrical
- Mechanical
- HVAC and Refrigeration Systems
- Process Controls,
- Mechanical Power Transmissions,
- Painting,
- Plumbing,
- Carpentry
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable, and courteous service to customers.
- Ability to effectively present information.
- Ability to respond effectively to sensitive issues.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
- Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations.
- Requires advanced analytical and quantitative skills.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Physical requirements include stooping, standing, climbing and frequent lifting of a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and make decisions.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Assist the route mechanic with routine building maintenance and repair tasks
- Learn how to perform building maintenance and repair tasks on the job with the goal of becoming one of our route mechanics
- Be available for afterhours/weekend on-call duty
SAFETY

- Complete all required and assigned OSH training at a satisfactory level.
- Follow all activity policies and procedures, including all OSH-related requirements at all times.
- Participate in all OSH-related programs & activities as required, including incident investigations, interviews, auditing, and assessment, etc.
- Report any conditions which you feel could result in an accident or injury and / or stop work if required.
