Market Research and Insights
- Research and analyze market conditions in NA area to determine potential sales of products.
- Find sources. Data is not easy to obtain. Sources will include but are not limited to:
- Market research reports, publicly traded annual and quarterly filings from competitors and customers, trade magazines and articles, consumer preference and trend research, our sales and technical sales team, and ABM global data and research.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external research vendors to ensure access to the latest consumer insights and methodologies.
- Examples: Circana (formerly IRI), Innova, Statista, etc.
- Examples of Media Sources: Sosland Publishing, BNP Media, Avant Food Media, etc.
- Verify data. Use our internal data and also other sources to triangulate results and estimate data when not available.
- Gather market insights for applicable markets, industries and channels. Stay updated on industry best practices and new research techniques to continuously improve our consumer insights capabilities.
- Analyze competitors, consumer preferences, market trends, and other factors that may influence future sales.
- Use data and research to support strategy documents, product category documents and product development business cases. Examples:
- Build specific market size estimates and photovisions (market share assessments) for product categories, product ranges and individual products. Market growth rates.
- Share data with team to build business cases for product development. Calculate market opportunity / size of the prize for NPD projects.
- Use data to update product strategy decks and analyses.
- Support competitor SWOTs with details from market research. Document competitive advantages and disadvantages as compared to ABMNA.
- Market segmentation support.
- Partner with commercial and technical sales team to map the market.
- Map customer and potential customer plant locations for sizes, capacities, specific products and product lines.
- Map competitor production facilities for specific products or product categories. Document production capacities and product capabilities.
- Partner with marketing to data-mine existing resources and regularly-received reports, news and information.
- Prepare reports and graphic illustrations of findings.
- Maintain accepted historical market data for our region. Be the go-to resource within the company for “known” market data and standard information. Liase with global research and data resources to provide information and insights applicable to ABMNA. Examples:
- Historical bread/pizza/tortilla/donut/etc. consumption in USA, Canada, NA for each of last 20 years, by volume and by retail sales.
- Standard industrial formulas for each application to estimate historical market consumption within the baking industry by ingredient.
- Acquire market, customer and competitor data from primary, secondary and tertiary sources.
- Organize and maintain databases and information stores. Identify potential software tools that could be added to the business to manage this task.
- Identify, analyze and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
- Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports.
- Create custom reports and business case support by mining, extracting and validating data from multiple external and internal sources.
- Partner with IT, Finance, Supply Chain to determine best location to store and warehouse data, information, and research. Determine best organizational methodology to make data searchable, discoverable, and useable within the company.
- Provide accurate and appropriate interpretation of data, applying knowledge to evaluation, analysis, and understanding of data.
- Develop appropriate methodologies for researching, collecting, analyzing, and presenting data.
- Develop useful and insightful information from a wide variety of data sources.
- Communicate reports and information regularly and effectively with appropriate teams.
- Develop reports/presentations within specifications and timelines.
- Identify process gaps and define new process improvement opportunities.

essential skills and knowledge
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree – Statistics, Business, Finance, Psychology, Market Research, Marketing or similar or combination of relevant education, experience, and training.
- Minimum 5 years of work experience in business research or business data analyst with demonstrable experience about market tracking methodologies; working with tools such as Brand Health Tracking and Panel/POS trackers (i.e. NPD, Nielsen, Circana/IRI or other syndicated research tools.
- Experience with finding difficult-to-source market data and information.
- Familiarity with NA industrial food market and industry.
- Familiarity with market research tools for gathering insights.
- Must be a self-starting, self-driven individual.
- Advanced capabilities in Microsoft Office Suites (specifically Excel, Power BI, Visio, Project) and Power Query.
- Technical expertise in data models and data mining.
- Strong analytical, organizational, decision making, and presentation skills.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and excellent customer service skills.
- Strong oral, written, verbal communication and strong mathematical aptitude.
- Ability to multi-task and work independently.
- Baking market and industry experience.
- Advanced degree in quantitative field.
- Understanding of new product commercialization and market opportunity definition business processes.
