What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed Practical Nurse position at ABACUS DERMATOLOGY MANAGE?
Responsibilities/Daily Duties:(include but are not limited to)
Patient Care
- Greet patients and escort to exam rooms
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by the physician
- Remove sutures/staples, change sterile and non-sterile/sterile dressings
Patient Medical Records
- Update patient medical records
- Handle medical correspondence
- Record patient medical history
- Chart progress notes
Medical Supplies
- Sterilize medical instruments
- Dispose of contaminated medical supplies
- Restock exam rooms
- Ordering medical supplies
Pharmacy
- Authorize drug refills as directed by physician
- Telephone prescriptions to pharmacy as directed by physician
Laboratory work
- Arrange for laboratory services
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens
- Perform basic laboratory tests on premises
Patient Education
- Explain treatment procedures to patients
- Promote patient/family understanding of the educational content and his/her involvement in the plan of care (document this in patient records)
- Answer medically-related patient calls
- Perform HPC’s which are history and physical consultations prior to patient having surgery at our surgery center
All other administrative and clinical duties as needed by the practice
Adheres to all HIPAA, OSHA, and other federal regulatory guidelines as required by the practice
Qualifications:
- Good customer service skills
- Work requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, as well as document and communicate pertinent information
- Working knowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures that are applicable to work performed
- Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatments to patients, as well as age-specific competencies
- Working knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene and basic health and safety precautions applicable for work in a medical setting. Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions
- Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with patients and clinic staff
- Working knowledge of general office equipment
- Proof of high school graduation or GED
- Graduation from an accredited LPN program
- BLS
