What are the responsibilities and job description for the Network Contractor position at Abacus Service Corporation?
Scope : IT and Fire Central data centers need old equipment and cabling removed.
Work details :
- Contractor will work with Network team to identify old equipment and unused fiber and ethernet cabling.
- Contractor will remove old equipment and unused cabling.
- Contractor will engage the Infrastructure Engineering team for assistance in identifying unused fiber cabling.
- Contractor will label all remaining equipment based on direction from Network team.
- Contractor will move equipment in Data Center to different racks working with the Network team.
- Contractor will install cable managers in racks in Data Center.
- Contractor will update Netbox software with equipment currently in production.
- Communications Closet Audit and Cleanup
- Contractor will visit each IT Room with a Network team escort.
- Contractor will audit the room based on the Communications Room checklist.
- Contractor will clean up messy cabling (as much as can be done without disrupting service).
- Contractor will use compressed air to eliminate dust.
- Contractor will Install cable managers.
- Contractor will tidy up the room sweeping up any debris on the floor.
- Contractor will perform a light vacuum of the IT room.
- Contractor will take notes of any items that need to be addressed right away.
- DNS Duplicate Record Cleanup
- Contractor will review spreadsheet of host names and IP addresses.
- Contractor will sort and identify duplicate IP addresses.
- Contractor will work with the Network team to figure out which IP Address is valid and which one can be removed.
- Contractor will submit tickets in Ivanti ticketing system to request the duplicate DNS record is deleted.
- Skills Required
- Working in data center where there can be temperature extremes (hot and cold aisles)
- Attention to detail
- Follows directions
- Light technical knowledge preferred
- Physical work - will be on feet quite a bit
- Highly organized

- Generally, the dress code is business casual. However, there will be times when variations will be authorized due to nature of the work performed.
