Pay Rate : $21.78 / hourly.
Overview :
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking an experienced Benefits Program Specialist II. Under general supervision, Benefit Programs Specialist ll manage tasks within a caseload consisting of either SNAP, TANF, Families and Children Medicaid, Long Term Care Medicaid and Aged, Blind and Disabled Medicaid or a combination of programs.
Job Duties :
- Work involves conducting interviews, gathering, assembling and reviewing information supplied by applicants and ongoing recipients regarding financial and non-financial criteria relevant to the initial and on-going eligibility.
- Process applications, redeterminations and interim reports for assistance on the Virginia Case Management System (VaCMS) and establish case files.
- Authorize denial, reduction or termination of benefits when applicant / recipient is determined not eligible and interpret and explain complex rules and regulations to applicants / recipients regarding their eligibility, rights and responsibilities.
- Additional duties include but are not limited to initiating referrals to the Fraud department, completing appeal summaries and attending appeal hearings, serving as a Lead worker, and participating effectively as a team member by collaborating with colleagues to meet processing guidelines.
Requirements :
Requires a Bachelor's degree in human services, business administration, accounting, or a related field and two (2) years of experience as an Eligibility or other Social Services Benefits Worker determining eligibility for SNAP, TANF, Families and Children Medicaid, and / or Aged, Blind, or Disabled Medicaid; OR any combination of education (above the high school level) and / or experience equivalent to six (6) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
