TITLE : Veterinary Technician
PAY RATE : $35.00 / hr.
SCHEDULE : Monday - Friday, 8 : 00am - 6 : 00pm
LOCATION : Norfolk Animal Care Center 5585 Sabre Rd. Norfolk, VA 23502
JOB DUTIES :
- Interpret medical histories and relay pertinent information to the Clinic Director
- Safely and humanely restrain companion animals with an emphasis on fear free and low stress techniques.
- Accurately record medical information into the clinic software.
- Administer vaccinations, microchips, sedatives, pre-anesthetic drugs, and anesthetic drugs under the direction of the Clinic Director.
- Perform general anesthesia safely on canines, felines, and small mammals.
- Perform dental exams, cleanings, radiographs, and extractions.
- Perform diagnostic services for Clinic Director to interpret, document results, and communicate to Veterinary Assistants.
- Recover patients from anesthesia.
- Provide post-operative, vaccination, preventative care, medication, and microchipping counseling to clients, escalating concerns and inquiries to Clinic Director as appropriate.
- Clean, sanitize, and maintain veterinary equipment and surgical tools.
- Assist Clinic Director in oversight, training, and support for Veterinary Assistants, drafting SOPs and maintaining inventory.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds and to sit, stand, bend, stop and walk for a full workday.
- Ability to work around pet dander, dust, and other allergens.
- Must be comfortable handling dogs, cats, and other small animals of varying sizes and temperaments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to deal with difficult and stressful situations involving animals and customers.
- Ability to use computer systems and learn new software.
