Job Summary
-
Provides nursing care to the pre-operative, perioperative and post-operative patient. The RN is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame. Renders professional care in accordance with the physician treatment plan and the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. He/She is a clinical practitioner who coordinates and implements patient care specific to the age of the patient population served on the assigned units. He/She ensures that compassionate, engaged care meets or exceeds quality standards. Care is provided in an efficient and safe manner consistent with the South Carolina licensure and AAMC standard of care. Utilizes nursing skills to determine the biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self care, cultural, ethnic and spiritual and educational needs of the patient/family/significant other to develop, implement and revise the plan of care. In doing so, performs frequent and accurate assessments, interprets and correlates finding, establishes plan of care and implements short term goals. The nurse observes patient progress, records pertinent observations, implements physician and nursing treatment plans and evaluates outcomes.

Minimum Education Requirement

Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.

Minimum Experience Requirement
-
Possess a thorough understanding of nursing principles, AAMC and Surgical Services policies and procedures. Demonstrates ability to provide quality patient care in the preoperative, perioperative and post operative setting to include assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of care rendered. Communication skills to relate to patient/significant other/staff/physicians and work effectively with people. Possesses potential for leadership and organizational skills necessary in a fast paced, acute care setting. Prefer (1) year clinical experience in PACU, surgery or critical care area. Medical Surgical clinical experience acceptable. Need basic computer skills.

Minimum License Requirement

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in State of South Carolina or have licensure from another state with application to South Carolina Board of Nursing for licensure with temporary permit. BCLS current. ACLS and PALS required within (1) year of hire. Certification in perioperative nursing encouraged.

Physical Requirement/Working Conditions

May have irregular hours and long periods of standing. Should be able to lift up to 50 pounds, and will seek assistance when heavier objects need to be lifted. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a hospital environment. May be exposed to infectious specimens, diseases, soiled laundry, lifting and handling of heavy patients, but potential for personal harm or injury to self or others is limited when proper safety and health precautions are followed. Able to pass employee physical prior to orientation; able to maintain emotional stability; must be in good physical condition to meet the demands of an active position, including extensive walking, moderate sitting, standing and lifting; physically able to perform CPR.
