Farm Hand

Job Summary:

The Abbey Road Farm Hand position would be primarily assisting in the garden to grow fruits, vegetables, flowers and herbs. The garden production supports many aspects of the property. This includes our off-site restaurant called 82 acres, based in southeast Portland. We also grow food for our 5-course breakfast and tasting room program at Abbey Road. In addition to growing edibles, we also grow cut flowers. These flowers are featured in our farm stand, bed and breakfast and breakfast tables. Additionally, we save seed at the end of the season to grow for the following year. We are currently working to expand growth outside of the garden as well.

Job Duties:

• Harvesting crops
• Weeding and maintaining plant beds
• Seeding and transplanting plants
• Performing heavy lifting tasks
• Saving seeds for future planting
• Preparing beds for planting
• Watering crops and plants
• Managing beekeeping activities
• Caring for farm animals (animal husbandry)
• Adapting to seasonal workload changes

Note: A willingness to accept and adapt to changing seasonal responsibilities is highly valued.

Qualifications:

• Exceptional attitude and eagerness to learn
• Willingness to work in varying conditions, including hot, cold, dry, and wet weather
• Physical ability to lift at least 50 lbs
• Strong work ethic and ability to perform physically demanding tasks
• Flexibility to assist in other departments as needed
• Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to collaborate on larger projects
• Reliable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility
• Basic knowledge of or interest in farming, gardening, or animal husbandry (preferred but not required)
• Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently
• Positive attitude towards learning and adapting to new techniques and responsibilities

The Abbey Road Farm Event Center is a beautifully crafted converted riding arena, capable of hosting extraordinary events large and small, set against manicured gardens and panoramic views of the valley. The Tasting Room is open 7 days a week 11am-5pm. The property was planted with 42 acres of grapes including 14 different varieties.

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
