Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for supporting persons receiving services while promoting their personal, physical and emotional wellbeing. The primary role of the Direct Support Professional is to work alongside the people we support in order to help them to achieve their personal goals. The DSP ensures the delivery of Habilitation services, service plans or other OPWDD supports and documents and verifies daily data collection.

Abbott House is an innovative community-based organization that helps children, families, adults, and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities with complex needs build lasting foundations for a promising future. We operate programs in the New York Metropolitan area and Hudson Valley.
Key Responsibilities
- Adheres to all regulations, policies, procedures and protocols set forth by NY OPWDD, NY Justice Center, Centers for Medicare/Medicaid and Abbott House.
- Establishes a positive working relationship with the individual, family and direct supervisor
- Maintains a professional demeanor when interacting with parents, guardians and other professionals.
- Expected to learn, and demonstrate skills outlined in the DSP Code of Ethics and DSP Core Competencies.
- Service can only be provided Monday through Friday between 9am and 3pm and only in the Community.
- To provide meaningful services to the individual out in the community. These services are about the individual and their choices.
- Implements outlined Habilitation and Behavioral Support plans/programs and documents accordingly. Maintain documentation for each service provided by completing a daily note, documenting the service on the Individual response sheet and completing a monthly summary
- Provide transportation to and from community outings. Candidate will need to use their own car and will be reimbursed for mileage
- Submit completed paperwork by the 3rd business day of the new month
- Attend individual’s Life Plan reviews to share the progress and any issues or concerns
- To keep lines of communication opened between Supervisor, House Manager, Care Coordinators and Families (if applicable)
About You
You are the ideal candidate if you are passionate about the social services field and empowering underserved communities. Being compassionate, organized, self-motivated, driven, flexible and responsive are critical attributes to be successful in this role.
- You have a High school diploma or GED
- You have a valid driver’s license
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- One year experience working with people with developmental disabilities preferred.

Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
