Overview:
The Pathology Laboratory, as part Local Deliver Translational Science (LDTS) at Abbvie is responsible for developing, validating and performing investigative pathology-based methods to help pathologists and other scientists characterize compound induced effects related to target organ injury in animal and human tissue, characterize animal models of disease, develop target engagement endpoints, characterize local drug biodistribution, and address key questions that advance drug discovery and development for eyecare, aesthetics and botulinum toxin development projects.
The Pathology Associate II, as part of the Pathology lab in LDTS at the Irvine, California site at Abbvie is responsible for performing routine histology, ocular histology, and related tasks, to support non-clinical safety and research studies. The Pathology Associate II works closely with Pathologists and other colleagues to coordinate work schedules, maintain lab equipment, order supplies, ship and receive histology samples to and from external providers (CROs), or Abbvie colleagues at other sites, and may assist with specialized histology tasks (IHC, special stains, etc.) as needed.
As a member of a small team, this individual will perform histology and utilize their expertise to contribute to the successful completion of non-clinical safety and other investigative studies. This individual should be a detail-oriented self-starter who is eager to learn and thrives in a collaborative, fast paced environment, with a desire to make an impact by interacting closely with scientists in the Pathology lab as well as scientific staff in other departments and at other Abbvie sites
Specific Responsibilities include:
- Performs routine histology and specialized ocular histology tasks as needed.
- Contributes to histology and immunohistochemistry (IHC) lab operations by purchasing supplies and equipment, coordinating maintenance, and ensuring safety compliance.
- Maintains awareness of current technologies in histology.
- Perform special staining or IHC as needed.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent education, with typically 3 or more years’ experience or Master’s Degree or equivalent education (no additional experience.
- Experience in routine histology tasks such as trimming, blocking, sectioning, staining, etc.
- Experience operating and maintaining histology equipment such as tissue processors, autostainers, etc.
- Experience shipping and receiving histology materials.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively.
- Ability to perform hands on lab work, including lifting 40 lbs.
- HT or HTL Certification preferred.
Preferred Experience:
- Pharmaceutical or related industry experience
- Ocular histology
- Immunohistochemistry (IHC) working with automation systems (Ventana autostainers or Bond RX)
- Digital pathology experience with whole slide imaging systems

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. Salary : $55,000 - $104,500
