POSITION: Per Diem Interpreting and Translation Services (Haitian Creole)
SCHOOL YEAR: 2024-2025
REPORTS TO: ESL Director
Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School seeks an experienced, collaborative, and energetic Translator to join the district for a position as Interpreting and Translation Services in the Haitian Creole language. Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School (AKFCS) provides an education to 1426 students in grades kindergarten through twelve, comprising an Elementary, Middle and High School. POSITION SUMMARY
Facilitate communication between Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School parents/guardians and school staff through interpreting services (both written and oral). This includes bridging language and cultural barriers in order to protect educational rights of families and their children.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
Interpreting:
Interpret as needed for school meetings and events district-wide.
Be the bridge between Haitian Creole speaking parents/guardians and staff.
Interpret from English into Haitian Creole and from Haitian Creole into English.
Written Translations:
Translate written material from English into Haitian Creole and from Haitian Creole into English.
Edit previously translated correspondence for accuracy, grammar and mechanics.
SCHEDULING:
Interpreting:
The ESL Director will contact interpreters via phone or email up between 12-48 hours prior to the date of interpreting when prior notice is given.
Written Translations:
The ESL Director will contact interpreters via phone or email with a written translation project proposal. All proposals will include the document needed for translation, the price the school is willing to pay for said project, as well as the project completion date. The interpreter will have by the end of business hours (4:00 p.m.) the day in which the proposal was sent to accept or reject the proposal.
Compensation
As compensation for the performance of the above outlined duties, a rate of $35.00 per 1 hour worked for interpreting and $35.00 per 1 page translated for written translation projects.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Native Proficiency in ( Haitian Creole)
Proficiency in English.
Strong verbal communication skills.
Experience interpreting in the educational setting preferred
