Job Summary
The Director of Memory Care Operations is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the memory care unit, ensuring the facility operates in full compliance with state and federal regulations. This role includes managing interdepartmental staff, ensuring smooth operational workflows, and delivering a safe, engaging, and comfortable environment for residents. This position does not involve clinical responsibilities but focuses on operational excellence, team leadership, and regulatory adherence.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Oversee all daily operations within the memory care unit, ensuring efficiency and alignment with company standards.
- Implement and maintain systems to support resident care, activities, dining, and housekeeping.
- Coordinate with other departments, including facilities, dining services, and activities, to meet the unique needs of the memory care unit.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure the memory care unit complies with all applicable state, local, and federal regulations.
- Stay up to date on regulatory changes and implement necessary adjustments to maintain compliance.
- Prepare for and participate in inspections and audits, addressing findings promptly and thoroughly.
Staff Management
- Manage interdepartmental staff working in the memory care unit, providing clear guidance and support.
- Recruit, train, and supervise non-clinical staff, ensuring they understand and meet operational standards.
- Schedule and oversee staffing levels to ensure adequate coverage for all operational needs.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide coaching to foster professional growth.
Resident and Family Engagement
- Collaborate with families to ensure operational concerns or requests are addressed promptly and appropriately.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment, promoting positive interactions between staff, residents, and families.
Safety and Facility Management
- Oversee environmental safety and cleanliness within the memory care unit, coordinating with facilities and housekeeping teams.
- Conduct routine safety checks and ensure compliance with emergency preparedness protocols.
- Address and resolve operational issues promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to residents and staff.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to staffing, compliance, and operations.
- Assist in developing and managing the memory care department’s operational budget.
- Create and implement policies and procedures to optimize efficiency and enhance the resident experience.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business management, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing operations in a memory care, senior living, or similar setting.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of state and federal regulations applicable to memory care and senior living facilities.
- Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage and lead cross-functional teams effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Licenses and Certifications
- Assisted Living Facility Administrator license (if required by state).
- Certification in Dementia Care (preferred but not required).
Work Environment
This role operates in a residential memory care setting and involves frequent interaction with staff, residents, and families. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to oversee operations or respond to emergencies.
