This role involves working closely with students, parents, and staff to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) and ensure students receive the support they need to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Individualized Instruction:
- Provide direct instruction to students with learning disabilities, both in the general education classroom and in small group settings.
- Develop and implement IEPs tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and resources to address students' learning needs and help them meet academic standards.
- Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with general education teachers to modify curriculum and instructional strategies to accommodate students with special needs.
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other staff to monitor student progress and adjust IEPs as necessary.
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other school meetings to discuss student progress and develop action plans.
- Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
- Conduct assessments to determine students' eligibility for special education services and to inform instruction.
- Monitor and document students' progress toward IEP goals, using data to inform instructional decisions.
- Prepare and maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including IEPs, progress reports, and other required documentation.
- Behavior Management:
- Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) as needed to support students' social and emotional development.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters respect, responsibility, and collaboration.
- Address behavioral issues promptly and effectively, working with other staff to implement appropriate interventions.
- Professional Development:
- Stay current with best practices in special education and participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Engage in reflective practice and seek out opportunities for growth and improvement in instructional strategies.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid California teaching credential with a Resource Specialist Authorization or equivalent.
- Experience working with students with learning disabilities, preferably in a K-12 setting.
- Strong understanding of special education laws, including IDEA and Section 504.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators in a team-oriented environment.
