Summary: The Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau is seeking applications for the position of Convention Sales & Marketing Associate. As the tourism marketing agency for Aberdeen, the Convention Sales & Marketing Associate plays a vital role in the Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. This person will implement strategies and tactics to promote and sell the Aberdeen area as a destination for conventions, exhibitions, sporting events, and group tours in a manner which maximizes the economic impact on the area and increases hotel occupancy. The successful candidate should have a background knowledge of sales, leadership, marketing, and public relations. Our staff is a multi-disciplinary team, having documented ability to work effectively and collaboratively with all departments. We are seeking a person to join our team to host meetings, conventions, and sporting events by working with organizations, meeting planners and associations for the City of Aberdeen directly benefiting hotels and convention facilities. Includes making sales calls, in-person sales visits, and hosting meetings. This position helps market the City of Aberdeen with digital, traditional, organic and social media marketing.

Duties & Responsibilities:

· Develop and deliver verbal and written presentations to convention and meeting planners. If appropriate, provide local contacts and businesses with bid materials. Coordinate Aberdeen Area CVB convention services for bids.

· Maintain close working relationships with private and publicly owned area hotels, facilities, venues, and attractions.

· Attend trade shows and conferences to promote the area as a convention, leisure, sporting, and outdoor enthusiast destination. Overnight stay and travel may be required.

· Serve as liaison and assist with servicing city and county task forces, events, committees, and community festival groups in all aspects of events and ensures a Bureau presence.

· Identify market opportunities, research, and develop short- and long-term strategies acting as a resource for new events and activities beneficial to the community with an emphasis on the overnight visitor.

· Provide monthly reports for the Executive Director. These include statistical and economic impact data reports on conventions and events, sales activity reports, and convention and event service reports.

· Design and produce the CVB’s communication materials including Aberdeen community guide, brochures, posters, news releases and assist with social media and website information.

· Design research projects; analyze industry trends and manage information technologies.

· Assist the Aberdeen Area CVB and Hotel Alliance during functions after hours and on weekends may also be required by helping and assisting event staff, volunteers, and dignitaries during high-profile events within the community. High profile events include but are not limited to welcoming visitors to Aberdeen, attending travel and sports shows, hosting hospitality rooms, and attending Aberdeen Community functions. You are always required to represent the Aberdeen Area CVB and the Aberdeen Hotel Alliance in a positive light.

· Meet goals and performance objectives as established with the Executive Director and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Postsecondary education / bachelor’s degree in business

· Equivalent combination of work experience in the hospitality or customer service industry

· Knowledge of account management, direct sales, and sales presentations

· A background in the hospitality/customer service industries is desired.

· Background in print and digital marketing desired.

· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal required.

· Experience with Microsoft Office products

· Ability to focus attention on convention needs.

· Able to work in a fast-paced office with changing priorities and deadlines.

· Creative and detail oriented

· Professional appearance

· Some weekend work and travel may be required.

· Must have a valid driver’s license and dependable vehicle
