SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
Description of Position
It is the Special Education Teacher’s responsibility to provide students who have disabilities with the best learning experience possible. The teacher should help develop each student to his/her maximum potential.
Area of Responsibility
Duties include but not limited to the following:
- Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning for students with various mental and/or physical disabilities
- Prepare for classes assigned, and shows written evidence (lesson plans) of preparation upon request of administration
- Adapt and modify curricula and instruction as required by individual students’ education plans
- Serve as disciplinarian in a manner appropriate to each student’s abilities
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and materials
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Evaluate student progress on a regular basis and conduct individual assessments
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
- Participate in preparing each student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP)
- Provide for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program concerning both the broad academic and behavior progress of all assigned students
- Accept a share of responsibility for curricular and extra-curricular activities as assigned
- Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials
- Attend and participates in faculty meetings, in-service and professional development
- Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and board policy
- Demonstrate knowledge and teach the district and state curricula
- Perform other duties as assigned by the administration

Assistant Teacher if applicable
Qualifications
Proper certification by State Department of Education with endorsement in Special Education and such other qualifications as may be set by administration
