What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2025 Ticket Sales and Service Internship position at Aberdeen IronBirds?
The Aberdeen IronBirds are the High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles owned by Attain Sports, operating in founders Bill Ripken and Cal Ripken, Jr.'s home town. The IronBirds are excited to offer career opportunities for new or experienced sports professionals. Interns working for The IronBirds during the upcoming season will have the opportunity to learn every aspect of the business of baseball and gain experience that will be valuable in full time employment in any sports organization.
IronBirds’ seasonal interns will be the lifeblood of the IronBirds’ front office staff, handling a variety of important tasks crucial to team success on gameday and throughout the season. Sales & Service Interns will take turns learning the management and responsibilities of the Ticketing Department, including, but not limited to:
- Box Office Ticket Sales and Customer Service
- Ticket Service Gameday Operations
- Season Ticket Holder Benefits and Events
- In-game sales of promotional items and inventory
- Outbound ticket sales and marketing efforts including phone sales and community events appearances
- And more!
All duties and responsibilities will be overseen by the full-time staff of the IronBirds Ticket Sales department.
Duties & Responsibilities include the following based on daily assignments–
· Box Office in-person and phone ticket sales and customer service
· Setup and operations of the Ticket Service Window for in-game customer assistance
· Plan and operate gameday ticketing-related events such as Catch on the Field, Kids Run the Bases, Launch-A-Ball, or other revenue-generating efforts promoted to fans
· Season Seat Member service, including ticket transfers, benefit management, premium season seat member gift distribution
· Contributing to in-game customer hospitality management, including assisting in premium/VIP customer areas with special group bookings
· Making outbound sales calls on gameday and non-gameday to communicate special offers or connect with fans regarding upcoming events and promotions and generate revenue for the Ticketing Department
· Other responsibilities and opportunities to grow as assigned by full time Ticket Sales staff
A successful candidate for the internship will:
- Be a current undergraduate (rising college sophomore or later), graduate student, or recently graduated student, looking for experience in sports.
- Possess previous or current experience in retail or customer service.
- Have excellent communication skills.
- Have a positive attitude and a desire to learn from experienced sports executives.
- Work as many of the IronBirds’ 66 home games as possible (school schedule permitting) beginning in April and ending in September (Time can extend based on Playoffs)
- Candidates arriving after the college year concludes and/or leaving for college in late August or early September will be considered.
- Interns are expected to be available to work every game all summer once they are out of school and before they go back to school; games and homestands are not missed for vacations. (Please view attached schedule)
- Gladly accept any assignment offered to them to gain experience in every aspect of the business of minor league sports.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Frequently walk or stand for extended periods.
- Work outdoors in high or low temperature environments.
- Ability to learn and operate ticket sales system (Glitnir) to provide excellent sales and customer service.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Eager to listen, learn, and receive constructive feedback.
The Aberdeen IronBirds do not provide housing for interns and interns should be prepared to live within a reasonable distance to commute to the ballpark.
