Description of Position
The Assistant Teacher assists the teacher with instruction in reading, language arts, mathematics, and related activities.
Area of Responsibility
Duties include but not limited to the following :
- Assist the classroom teacher in guiding students through positive and rewarding learning experiences
- Provide direct assistance in improving students' basic skills in reading and in improving students' basic skills in other academic areas as required.
- Operate within district policies and procedures
- Adhere to policies and procedures established by the District
- Report discipline problems or guidance / health needs to classroom teacher
- Reinforce and teach basic skills with individual or small groups planning process (including lesson plans, checking students' work, etc.)
- Attend parent-teacher conferences
- Attend staff development meetings
- Model good reading, writing, and speaking skills for students
- Supervise students
- Ensure that the District Curriculum, State test required Core Skills, and CRT are taught
- Substitute in teacher's absence not to exceed three (3) consecutive days unless extreme circumstances
- Perform other duties as assigned by teacher and / or principal
