POSITION SUMMARY
A Special Education Enrich Teacher is an educator involved in designing and implementing engaging, supplemental activities to enhance the learning experience for students with disabilities, focusing on building upon their existing skills and interests beyond the standard curriculum, while collaborating closely with general education teachers and specialists to ensure individual student needs are met.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Use a variety of assessment procedures, samples, and instruments to evaluate student learning and provide specific and immediate feedback.
- Participate in identification, assessment, and development of individual plans of delivery for eligible students.
- Maintain student records regarding the referral, evaluation, and placement process in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.
- Enable students to gain insight and practical skills.
- Use a variety of assessment procedures, samples, and instruments to evaluate student learning and provide specific and immediate feedback.
- Enhance student application of basic writing, communication, and literacy skills.
- Teach the approved district curriculum to assigned students.
- Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
- Participate in assessment and IEP development and delivery for eligible students.
- Recognize signs of emotional/physical distress in students and take appropriate action when necessary.
- Prepare all IEP documents and follow the state rules and guidelines regarding the IEP process.
- Employ instructional strategies that address a variety of learning styles and strengths.
- Use a variety of assessment procedures, samples, and instruments to evaluate student learning and provide specific and immediate feedback.
- Maximize available amount of time for instruction.
- Establish and maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.
- Maintain an organized and attractive physical classroom environment.
- Set high expectations and standards for student achievement and behavior as appropriate to age and level of development.
- Recognize and address disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking assistance of district specialists as required.
- Maintain appropriate classroom management and supervision for all assigned students.
- Take all reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location(s) and time(s) designated.
- Coordinate and supervise field trips as appropriate for assigned teaching area.
- Assist with the activities of student organizations as assigned.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence by participating in district-initiated staff development.
- Communicate effectively and clearly with others.
- Use appropriate and effective written and spoken language.
- Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, school district policy and school administrative requirements.
- Prepare appropriate lesson plans for substitute teachers.
- Use appropriate technology for both instructional and management functions.
- Adhere to all district policies, handbooks, and regulations.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of teaching and assigned course.
- Knowledge of terminology and appropriate teaching techniques.
Knowledge and proficiency in using lessons plans to teach students how to read, write, speak and listen.
- Ability to create engaging and effective lesson plans.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Skill in analyzing complex issues, defining problems and evaluating alternatives and recommending methods, procedures and techniques for resolution of issues.
Ability to effectively utilize the principles of strategic and long and short-range planning

Ability to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate projects and assignments.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in an approved teaching education program.
- Current and valid South Dakota teaching certificate with endorsements in Special Education.
- Must be highly qualified for the position according to South Dakota Department of Education guidelines and regulations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of two (2) years industry experience
Previous teaching experience

Employment is contingent upon a Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance, paid for by the applicant.
