What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engine Inspector position at Abilene Machine LLC?
POSITION SUMMARY:
- Tears down, dismantles and removes components and/or parts from engines for rebuilding. Cleans and inspects dismantled parts for processing through the engine rebuilding process. Replaces broken or missing parts and prepares parts for warehouse processing. Tear down and otherwise prepare cores for warehouse processing.
LEVEL OF AUTHORITY:
Performs routine duties independently in accordance with established policies and procedures.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed in an industrial, non-climate environment that is heated but not air-conditioned.
- This position is part of the hearing conservation program.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspects and preps engine block for final inspection.
- Performs final buff. May operate shot/glass peener or use pressure washer cabinet in prep of units or engine block.
- Does first review on parts for warehouse and/or incorporation into the rebuild process.
- Replace broken and/or missing parts and prepare for processing.
- Put sleeve in engine block to check proper fit.
- Dry mag engine block to check for cracks.
- Tap all bolt holes and check thread condition.
- Document all items that need repair for machine shop on tag with engine block.
- Warehouse, process and put away parts according to internal procedures.
. QUALIFICATIONS AND CAPABILITIES:
Technical
- 3-5 years’ experience inspecting diesel blocks, cores, and units preferred
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Must have or acquire basic hand tool set with standard and metric measurement.
- Some computer knowledge Physical
- Ability to frequently lift, carry, bend, stoop, and/or reach. Ability to exert 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently (Level 4 Heavy Work).
- Ability to stand and walk as required throughout the day.
- Ability to mount and dismount forklift and powered equipment.
- Ability to work in all types of weather.
- Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment functional capacity test. Other
- Effective communication/comprehension skills-verbal and written.
- Self-motivated and goal oriented.
- Able to work alone or with minimal supervision.
- Must be 18 years of age.
USE OF TOOLS:
- Standard use of office equipment. Hand and power tools.
- May use pressure washer cabinet, shot or glass peener and parts cleaning oven.
- Ability to read measuring equipment: calipers, tape measures and other measuring devices as required.
