What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fabrication Material Handler position at Abilene Machine LLC?
JOB PURPOSE
This position is responsible for material handling of orders that will be completed by the welders and fabricators. Occasionally the employee may assist the painter or Fabricator 1 with material handling tasks.
LEVEL OF AUTHORITY
This position performs routine duties independently in accordance with established policies and procedures.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most of the work is performed in an industrial environment that is heated but not air conditioned. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work area is normally moderate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Check incoming deliveries to make sure all ordered material meets quality standards.
- Load and unload packages/trucks
- Read blueprints and/or pick lists from BC Production to determine materials that need to be pulled for orders.
- Pulling of material from racks and shelving for orders
- Document materials and any stock movements, bin codes (use of tablet)
- Organize stock in the most efficient way using forklifts, pallets, cranes, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CAPABILITIES

Technical
- Prior material handling/parts pulling experience preferred.
- Prior experience working with lifting equipment and knowledge of basic rigging procedures preferred.
- Ability to complete in house forklift training.
- Ability to use a tablet to view work orders and basic data entry.
- Ability to use a tape measure and other measuring devices accurately.
- Mathematical skills necessary to perform essential calculations.
Physical
- Ability to lifts/carry 80 pounds occasionally (less than 33% of the time or 1-100 times per day).
- Ability to push a maximum force of 45-foot pounds and pull a maximum force of 25-foot pounds.
- Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment functional capacity test.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and walk throughout the day.
