What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavior Support Specialist - Classified position at Abilene Unified School District 435?
Abilene Public Schools, USD #435, is currently seeking two Behavior Support Specialists to work primarily with Pre-K through 1st grade students at Kennedy Primary and 2nd through 3rd grade students at McKinley Elementary in collaboration with the building principals, counselors, and teachers in the two buildings. The successful candidates will begin in August of the 25-26 school year.
Qualifications
- A demonstrated philosophy that all students can and will learn.
- Excellent attendance record.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of behavioral supports and interventions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Boys Town Social Skills.
- Positive interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to participate in regular professional learning around de-escalation, self-regulation, and behavior interventions.
- Verification of successful experience as a highly qualified classroom aide or paraprofessional.
- Evidence of the willingness and the ability to comply with the standards for ethical and professional performance established by USD 435.
- This individual will exhibit skills pertinent to foster positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with students and staff.
- Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality.
Other Information
Reports to: Kennedy Primary or McKinley Elementary Administrator
Work Schedule: Student attendance days, professional learning days, and Parent Teacher Conference days.
Responsibilities
- Encouraging productive academic behaviors to improve student success.
- Implementing proactive, preventive behavioral measures to increase student access to academic content.
- Working alongside teachers and administrators designed behavior supports and interventions to improve student success.
- Supporting the behavioral learning process, implementing behavior plans, and assisting students to achieve goals.
- Working with and understanding a diverse student population.
- Encouraging a building climate conducive to learning.
- Using progress monitoring to measure student growth.
- Collaborating with building staff in the selection and use of effective behavioral supports and interventions.
- Establishing a cooperative relationship with all students and staff.
- Maintaining open lines of communication with building administrator and teachers.
- Engaging in professional growth activities through an ongoing program of job-related knowledge and skill development.
- Working collaboratively to achieve the overall purpose of the school’s program and support the District’s vision, core values, aims and goals
