What are the responsibilities and job description for the Van Driver- Phillipsburg NJ position at Abilities of Northwest Jersey, Inc.?
This position is a split shift (4 hours per day) 7-9 in the morning and 2-4 in the afternoon.
BASIC FUNCTION: Van drivers are responsible for transporting the consumers to and from Abilities sites and their residences.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Transport Abilities consumers with disabilities to and from their day program site in 15 passenger or lift equipped vehicles owned by Abilities- Follow routes as directed.- Adhere to time schedules for all pick-ups and drop-offs as feasible.
- Be aware of all motor vehicle laws, emergency procedures and transportation procedures as specified by State law or Abilities.
- Report all routine and non-routine maintenance needs and emergency breakdown/repairs to Fleet and Facilities Manager or designee.
- Assure that all passengers are being dropped off at their residence only if a responsible party is there to supervise unless otherwise informed that this is not necessary.
- Keep emergency information on all passengers and request same when missing.
- Comply with center supervisor and behaviorist's requests to follow behavior management techniques. (Do not provide passengers with any gifts or food items unless directed by center supervisor, behaviorist and/or nurse.)
- Report passenger illness, injury, inappropriate/unusual behavior to center supervisor or designee, complete an incident report within 24 hours of incident.
- Transport consumers during inclement weather if directed to by Chief Executive Officer or designee.
- Attend trainings as directed by Chief Executive Officer or designee.
- Assist passengers with boarding and de-boarding van, fastening and unfastening seat belts.
- Monitor inventory and working condition of vehicle equipment (First Aid kit, fire extinguisher, flares). lnform designated staff of needed replacement.
- Conduct daily vehicle safety inspection by: checking tires, emergency signals, turn signals, lights, fluids and gas.
- Record mileage and gas purchases daily and submit to designated staff on monthly basis.
- Deliver medication, notes etc. to center supervisor or home representative upon request as needed.
- Will comply with the agency's Ethical Conduct Policy.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have valid driver's license and driving record in good standing. (Motor vehicle checks will be done periodically and without notice for all drivers.)
- Ability to write, comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must be willing and able to drive during inclement weather if directed to do so.
- Must be able to drive safely without any physical conditions or restrictions, which may interfere with ability to drive, react in an emergency or other situation and exercise good judgment.
- Must be willing to positively interact with disabled and have compassion for Abilities' disabled consumers.
- Must be free from alcohol or drugs, which would affect the ability to safely transport.
- Must be able to comply with Abilities' attendance policies.
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma, GED, or higher education.
