Description of Role:

Responsible for coordinating the afterschool program including the developing and organizing of recreation and socialization activities for children with special needs. Duties include scheduling and directing staff, field trips, parent meetings, special activities and events as well as ordering program supplies, maintaining consumer records and reports and complying with all rules, laws, regulations and standards set by regulatory agencies and AbilityFirst.


Primary Duties:

Supervision of Staff/Team Development

  • Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, works with Activity Leaders to plan and implement methods and activities that will ensure the appropriate curricula are implemented to meet needs of developmentally and physically disabled children and/or adults; encourages and nurtures staff in developing their own ideas and activities to serve participants, evaluates and plans activities, provides advice and guidance as appropriate.
  • Guides and advises Activity Leaders regarding participant developmental or behavioral issues, implementation of curricula and other items.
  • Provides input for performance appraisals and discipline.

Program Delivery

  • Under the guidance of the Program Supervisor, meets regularly with parents and other caregivers to report progress towards objectives, and discuss daily maintenance, behavioral issues, funding of services, and other concerns relative to the participant.
  • Implements behavior plans as necessary, under the guidance of the Program Supervisor, ensuring compliance with the applicable professional standards and requirements.
  • Confers with parents, participants, caseworkers, and caregivers regarding programs, practices and problems; resolves problems under the guidance of the Center Director.
  • Performs any and all of the duties of program delivery staff in order to meet ratios.

Development/Fundraising

  • Provides support to, and participates in, the fundraising and marketing activities of Center; attends special events.

Administrative/Other

  • Ensures all participant charts are accurate, complete and comply with all regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Supports overall quality and effectiveness of the Center's programs and recommends changes as appropriate.
  • Ensures program practices meet the requirements of AbilityFirst's policies and procedures, state licensing and funding sources.
  • Ensures safe, clean and attractive environment for participants and staff; identifies and reports emergency repair problems; ensures active compliance with energy conservation methods.
  • Develops flyers and other routine communications to keep parents, caregivers and others informed as to Center activities.
  • Develops and maintains personal working skills in program development and implementation and other areas through seminars, workshops or other forms of training/education.
  • Maintains records including vehicle logs, maintenance records, gas receipts, and packing/delivery slips; ensures accuracy and completeness of documents.
  • Participates in staff meetings and facility events.

Work schedule:

Full Time (Eligible for Benefits)
