The Engagement Manager (EM) is responsible for helping the Development and Marketing teams drive growth and achieve organizational goals by optimizing how we engage with our various audiences (donors, patients, volunteers, community partners/sponsors, referral sources, etc.). Goals could include improving new donor attainment and donor retention rates. The EM conducts audience analysis, creates effective segmentation, and develops ideal customer personas using internal and external data sources. The Engagement Manager oversees the strategy for use of the fundraising and donor management software and customer relationship management (CRM) tool and data to ensure database health & integrity, identify insights and recommend actions to support the Development and Marketing teams achieve campaign goals. The EM will support events, donor communications, grants management, fundraising campaigns, and brand messaging.
The Engagement Manager is also responsible for leading and leveraging the volunteer program at Ability KC. The EM will help the organization document and track key & impactful ways we engage with our audiences, including maintaining a list of tours conducted, community meetings, events, presentations or initiatives with which we are involved, and partner or potential partner opportunities. The Engagement Manager will present reports and insights to all levels of the organization, including to our C-suite, leadership team and Board of Directors at times. This person will have a strong understanding of our brand and services/programs, with the ability to positively and professionally represent Ability KC in the community. The EM will perform market research to keep a pulse on what is happening within our Kansas City community, and understand trends within the non-profit, healthcare and education sectors that could impact goals and growth at Ability KC.
Education:
- Minimum of BS or BA degree in business, analytics/business intelligence, market research, marketing,
communications, philanthropy, or related fields with a strong working knowledge of healthcare, education and/or the non-profit sectors.
Experience:
- A minimum of five years’ experience in a community engagement, communications, analytics, development or similar role. Previous experience working in a non-profit and/or healthcare-focused organization is desired.
- Experience identifying actionable insights from data, applying strong critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated professional experience navigating and building connectivity of strategies and engagements and supporting audience needs.
- Experience identifying and analyzing industry trends and building presentations sharing this information.
- Awareness to transparency and trust in building relationships, with focus on audience’s positive experience.
- Demonstrated professional experience communicating key information to internal stakeholders and executives, working across multiple projects and schedules; effectively managing deadlines and timetables; interacting with various types of individuals (business, community leaders and public).
- Proven communication, writing and proofreading expertise.
- Customer service skills/experience a plus.
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, and problem solve.
Knowledge/Skills/Licensure/Certification:
- Experience working in a CRM or donor management program/software; Able to make recommendations on best tools and practices related to CRM and fundraising platform to use tl1at will benefit the organization.
- Experience with audience segmentation and persona development a plus.
- Analytical and critical thinker; ability to identify insights and propose recommendations based on data.
- Utilize data and insights to help set and reach goals and benchmarks.
- Experience and success in working with community organizations. Is a natural “connector” who works well with all types of roles. Sales experience a plus.
- Familiarity working with schools, businesses, and civic organizations.
- Must have excellent written, and oral communication skills.
- Public speaking experience a plus.
- Ability to be a self-starter; manage multiple projects and schedules; and able to work in and around the community without supervision.
- Experience organizing special events is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Maintains relationships with third-party vendors and venues as applicable to responsibilities.
- Good interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills and ability to communicate effectively both
verbally and in writing required. - Able to gather, evaluate, synthesize and effectively present data/information regarding assigned
issues/topics. - Is a creative thinker and is resourceful; solution-oriented, willing to propose ideas and recommendations.
- Attend relevant tradeshows and events and monitor industry trends and competitor activities.
- Industry, programmatic and trends knowledge of services (medical rehabilitation, therapeutic preschool and employment services for individuals with disabilities) a plus.
- Has good working knowledge of applicable software, CRM’ s, marketing automation and platforms to support responsibilities and is comfortable learning new software programs.
