Abington Friends Upper School seeks a full time Upper School English teacher to join the Faculty. For this position, the Upper School seeks a thoughtful, experienced, and collaborative educator who is comfortable working in a writing intensive program in a wide array of genres. The teacher needs to feel comfortable working with high school students one-on-one and managing a classroom of diverse learners.
The position will teach four sections of English consisting of 10th grade English and electives for 11th and 12th grade. Upper School teachers are expected to serve as student advisors. In addition, Faculty and staff are expected to contribute to the school community beyond the classroom by coaching or supervising student activities. These responsibilities play a vital role in fostering student engagement and strengthening our shared community.

In Addition, AFS Seeks Candidates With
- Experience teaching and advising in the high school setting
- A BA in English Literature or a related field, Masters preferred
- A demonstrated interest in writing and the revision process
- A broad range of experience with literature from a variety of social contexts
- A comfort teaching a world-literature curriculum
- A familiarity with a Quaker education community
- An ability to work in a multi-genre reading and writing intensive program
- A willingness to work in a highly collaborative department
- A willingness to meet and collaborate with students outside of classroom hours
- A comfort working with and appreciation of adolescents as learners and individuals
- A commitment to exploring the place of equity and justice as a feature of teaching & learning.
- Extracurricular and coaching experience a plus
