PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Transportation Program Coordinator oversees Able SC’s transportation-related programs, including paratransit eligibility, mobility management, and travel training. Able SC’s transportation services aim to assist people with disabilities with receiving access to public transportation. This position provides transportation training to various stakeholders and sits on transportation-related committees. This position will build positive relationships with transit providers and the community to expand Able SC’s transportation programs. This position is under the direct delegation of the VP & Chief Community Integration Program Officer.

Hours: Full-time, Flexible work week 34-40 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Serve as an advocate for people with disabilities and their right to access accessible and inclusive transportation.
  • Designs, implements, and instructs Able SC’s transportation programs, including developing individualized consumer evaluations and assessments to meet consumers' needs best.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of all Able SC’s transportation programs.
  • Ensure compliance with grant implementation and reporting requirements.
  • Responds timely to program inquiries and complaints.
  • Able to understand the medical, sensory-motor functions, psychosocial aspects of disability, potential barriers, and solutions to increase access to public transportation.
  • Ensure passenger rights with disability-specific laws within all transportation programming.
  • Serve as the liaison between Able SC and transportation providers.
  • Assist and provide problem-solving with staff to assist with solutions to remove transportation barriers.
  • Ensure the transportation staff highlights their programs and outcomes to funders and the general public.
  • Maintain and disseminate up-to-date information about Able SC’s transportation programs to the general public, including on the website, social media, etc.
  • Direct and manage all transportation staff and duties other Able SC staff may be assigned regarding transportation programming.
  • Ability to lead staff and make them aware of transportation programs internally and externally available for people with disabilities.
  • Provide direct paratransit services and supervise those also providing the service.
  • Lead the efforts of creating and delivering outreach and training regarding duties related to transportation for people with disabilities.
  • Represent Able South Carolina in multiple stakeholder meetings and community outreach events regarding transportation.
  • Conduct planning and coordination to braid efforts and funding into increased access to transportation services.
  • Engage with transportation providers to identify opportunities for partnership in providing transportation.
  • Carry out additional assignments as delegated.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Able SC’s transportation team

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or other related fields. An equivalent combination of education and experience supporting persons with disabilities may be substituted for a college degree.
  • Knowledge of transportation services and systems (including coordination initiatives, regulations, funding sources, and best practices).
  • Computer literacy, proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suites, and ability to learn and perform on new platforms.
  • Literacy concerning all organizational equipment, including computers, photocopiers, and telephones.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles & practices.
  • Knowledge of disability rights and the Independent Living (IL) philosophy is required.
  • Working knowledge of community resources (including service systems, benefits, entitlements, and supports) available to people with disabilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively through presentations, phone calls, individual and group settings, email, reports, and other formats.
  • Knowledge of Assistive Technology and related resources.
  • Ability to collect and synthesize information to present as formal or informal research.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and provide feedback on policies and procedures that impact transportation users and community members.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to recognize and respect professional boundaries in authority and responsibility.
  • Ability to operate in and adapt to a fast-paced work environment where expected system changes.
  • Desired certifications include:
  • Successful completion of the National Center on Mobility Management’s courses (within the first six months of the position).
  • Easter Seals Consulting certification programs related to mobility management and ADA paratransit compliance.
  • Must be an Association of Transit Instructors member or willing to obtain membership.
  • Federal Transit Administration (FTA) certification programs related to paratransit and ADA.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
