We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented DC 3rd Class Engineer to join our Facilities Management team. This role will support the efficient operation and maintenance of the university’s mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring the campus environment remains safe and conducive to learning.
Position Overview: The DC 3rd Class Engineer will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the university's electrical systems, including DC power generation and distribution. This position is integral to maintaining reliable power supply for campus facilities, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and addressing any technical issues that may arise.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain DC power systems, including generators, battery banks, and related electrical equipment across campus facilities.
Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems to ensure their safe and efficient operation.
Troubleshoot electrical systems and conduct repairs as needed to minimize downtime and ensure consistent power delivery.
Assist with the management and monitoring of campus power loads, including backup and emergency systems (UPS systems, generators).
Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal safety regulations and university policies.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, inspections, repairs, and equipment performance.
Respond to emergency maintenance requests and power outages, providing timely solutions to minimize disruption.
Collaborate with the Facilities Management team and other departments to ensure smooth operations and efficient service delivery across campus buildings.
Stay up-to-date with the latest electrical technologies, codes, and industry best practices.
Participate in training and professional development to enhance technical knowledge and skills.
Required Qualifications:
Valid DC 3rd Class Engineer license or equivalent certification.
Knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of DC power systems, including generators, battery storage, and electrical distribution.
Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for electrical and mechanical systems.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations related to electrical systems and facilities management.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent attention to detail.
Strong communication skills to effectively interact with staff, students, and external contractors.
Ability to respond to on-call situations and perform work during off-hours if necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in a facilities management or industrial engineering role, particularly in a large institutional setting.
Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for tracking work orders and maintenance schedules.
Experience with renewable energy systems or energy management practices.
Understanding of HVAC systems and their integration with electrical systems.
Working Conditions:
Work will be conducted across multiple campus buildings, which may involve climbing, lifting, and working in confined or elevated spaces.
The position may require responding to urgent issues outside regular business hours, including weekends and holidays.
